Just did mine this weekend.  Only took about 15 minutes including changing the bulbs to ambers.  Thanks for the great write-up.

6. On the far right row, there are several wires, locate the double royal blue wire. Remove this wire from its current position and drop it down one (1) hole. Now the right side should have a double green wire at the top, followed by a single red, a single blue, a double purple, then the space just vacated and the newly relocated double blue wires.

Got it done last night! :D Took about 25 min.

My only suggestion is to take your time when pulling on wires/plastic. Plastic can become pretty brittle and does break. I learned this the hard way when modding my first car.

Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. The hardest part was wiggling the green block out, which did take some persistence. Thanks for the great and easy instructions.

Chad,

I followed your post about this mod, followed it to the "T", and I don't have the Daytime Running Lights.  I still have to turn my lights halfway on to get the ambers to come on.  Did I miss something??

I don't understand what you are saying when you say that you have to turn my lights halfway on? What lights do you have to turn on halfway?

After seeing the pics of the amber lamps, I guess the DRL's in question are the small lights attached to the fog lamps??  I thought it was the turn signal lamps on top of the headlights.....  I will re-check my lamps to see.  PS. What I meant by turning halfway on was if I move the switch up one click, the amber lamps above the headlight come on.

I cant' seem to find a 2002 ALL4ONHIGH thread along with FT Fog lights, so I thought I'd post here:

I took a 12" piece of wire from the passenger side low beam YELLOW wire, and grounded it to the bolt that holds down the stock airbox.  I don't have the stock box anymore, so it was easily accessible for this mod.

Total time from start to finish: 15 minutes.  And 10 minutes of that was looking for a piece of wire buried in the cabin shed.

Happy Labor Day!!

I ran across this mod and it just so happens to be, i have an '02 Avalanche. My question is, the DRL's will come on as soon as the key is in the ON position, right? And shut off when ignition is turned off? Will the DRL's being on full time, cause any discoloration/melting of the lenses? I get confused sometimes. The DRL's right now, only come on when the tranny is in gear, right? We're not talking about the fog lamps, right? Its the lights that i replaced the bulbs with Ambers, right?  Sorry bout all the questions but i just want to be sure. Is there any purpose to this mod or just to make our Av's stand out in a crowd? Thanx, Jim

Yes with this mod, your DRL's will be on whenever the ignition switch is in the ON position. The mod itself should not cause discolorization or melting of the housing as long as you have the correct bulbs. Without the mod, the DRL do indeed only come on when the truck is in gear. Yes the purpose of the mod is to made your truck stand out with the ambers on ALL of the time.

Anyone having problems using LED bulbs with or without this mod?
I just read through all 10 pages looking to see if anyone had these symptoms.

I have gone through 8 LED 3157 bulbs with this mod.
After a few weeks some of the LEDs in the bulb blow out and some flicker.
I have the exact same LED in my parking lights and never had to replace it once.
Any ideas as to what could be the cause?
I don't want to believe I am the first one with this problem on an 02 after all these years so can someone point me in the direction of a solution if there is one?
I have been searching the forum and so far I have come up blank.
Thanks

I certainly don't know what to tell you. I have had the 3157 led bulbs in the DRL's for and few years now with no problems. I did initially blow an led bulb when I put in in backwards since led's are polarized.

so i just got my 02 Z71, had it for a few days and decided I was gonna do the FTDLR. Much to my dismay, MY wife lost my socket wrench so i had to wait a day and buy a new one. Went over to the local harbor freight and picked up some Ambers and a new socket set. When i pulled the plugs out of the DRL housing, I found the bulbs were missing, poped in the new ones and was blinded by FTDLR.  Well long story short (and way to much leadup), I never did the FTDLR jump in the fuse box, or the grounded jumper under the hood... How is it that I have FTDLR that do no respond to the four click dome light switch, and are ALLWAYS ON?  ???

not that i mind, but I want to make sure there isnt anything wrong with my AV. I bought it used and have a 30 day warranty, but I really love it and dont want to give it back now!

Sounds to me like someone already did the Mod. You will have to open up the underhood fuse box and check to see if someone has already grounded out the wire.

i did open the fuse box, and the wires are still in the originally position. and i couldnt find any extra ground wires coming off the DRL pigtails... dont get me wrong, im not complaining, just wondering if there is any other way the FTDLR could have been applied

Ok, so I did this mod this evening, to the T, put everything back together, keys in ignition, no DRL's.  It was dark outside so my low lights were on along with turn signals, but no drl's.  Had to go to work and went to clear my windshield, my right (pass side) wiper motor didn't work.
This leads me to believe that when I re installed the green block, maybe some of the connections didn't go back to normal, or they are popping up on the top side of the fuse box.  Will report findings tomorrow.

Also, I'd like to have FT Ambers, DRL's and Turns, has there been a mod direction set for that?  Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the electrical fuse panel under the hood?  Lastly, I've seen other mods like all-on-high that require diodes, what do they do specifically and how do you use them?

Thanks!

Ok so I went back and did everything all over again, except this time I crimped the female clip on the end of the blue wires for a better connection and it worked marvelously!

Chalk another up for full time DRL's with Ambers!
I also upgraded the fog lights to 885's. 27w vs 50w WAY brighter!

On a side note, I didn't read the part about removing the two blue wires by using a toothpick to release the clip. I grapped them with some needlenose and pulled. Oops. Good thing I had some jewelers tools to re-work the factory clip.
Also reconditioned the headlights with the 3M headlight restoration kit. It worked AWESOME on the lights, but not good at all on the fogs/drl's. The plastic must be different or have a different coating. They are now a little-bit blurred, but better than they were.
Thanks for the help and this topic/forum!

Just did this mod tonight and followed the instructions perfectly.  Great right up! Looks great and only took me 15 min. to do.  Very simple and this was my night-capper after putting Monroe Reflex shocks on the front today. Thanks again!  (y)

Following the server changes a lot of very old pics are no longer viewable.
Any chance we can the pics from the original post restored?

Thanks,
EJ

Hey guys, bear with my ignorance (I'm new) for a moment. If I do the FTDRLs, will I lose my ability to do the "dome override" trick to shut off my lights at night while in gear? The reason I ask is because I am often coming home when everybody is in bed and I dont want to flash my lights into the house.

Also, I am changing out my cabin air filter. Does anyone know of a cheap mod I can do while the lower dashboard is off?

Thanks,
Billy
