2002 Full Time DRLs - Instructions for UnderHood Mod

I bought a kit from an on line Ebay store called mrtailight. The kit is for the 99-02 Silverado w/ fog lamps. I wrote a message to the seller that it was for an Avalanche. Shipping and all it was 38.00.

Followed their instructions, it took about 30 minutes. (y)

Glad to see people are still doing this mod... still one of my favorites!

vertabatt... this mod was well written, and very simple to do!  Thank you for posting the information!

Now... do you have a solution for an intermittent amber on driver's side?  :E:

Alot of Av's do this, it usually means you need to replace the socket for the bulb. You can get it at the parts store.

Freebie did FTDRL on my '04 and now my HI beams don't work. I rarely use HI beams so I forget about it . I can flash my HI but they won't stay on. Maybe I should just add diode/s for ALL4onHI ? Since I didn't do it myself I'm not sure and it's too cold to mess with this week.

Sounds like he may have gotten an unwanted contact somewhere. Were the diodes shrink wrapped? Pull the relays and see if you can see the problem. I doubt adding the All-4-On-High will change anything, but it may be worth a shot.

My recommendation would be to shrink wrap some new diodes and reinstall. It really is a piece of cake.

Finally did mine last night works awesome? I threw them all in at once and had no problems  (y) . Still the most cost effective mod I have seen

Yet another Kudo for this write up!  I had a DRL brun out, so off to the auto-store, a quick swing by rad-shack, then 1 hour under the car/hood and 1 burnt finger later, ALL ON HIGHS, AMBERS AND FT DRL's!
Thanks for the instructions, this is not something I could have figured out on my own.  but now that I know the basics...,,,MUHAHAHAHA (y)

I know you wrote this 6 years ago, but great writeup on the FTDRLs!  (y)
It took me all of 10 minutes to do this mod.  :yourock:

Awesome... it took me forever to get around to doing this mod, but once bought the diodes and heat-shrink tubes it took all of 5 minutes!  I went with All-on-High and Fogs-on-Low.

Got the diodes at Radio Shack for $2.59, and the tubes from Fry's for $2.19 (pack of 10, precut to 2" long. I used just under 1" for each diode).  I got the black 1/16" tubes... misjudged the size of the diode, or else I would have gotten one size smaller (either 1/32" or 3/64", I forget) which would have been more snug, but the 1/16"s were ok.  Add a $.99 light from 7-Eleven and I was all set.

Question: Would this technique be applicable with other GM vehicles, or even other makes/models?  As in, can we attach diodes to the equivalent HDLT-LO and HDLT-HI terminals and expect it to work?  Specificially, I have an 04 TrailBlazer that I'd want to have the All-on-High feature.  I would tinker, but I thought it would be smarter to check with the electircal gurus here first before burning out the TB's system.

This method should work for most GM 03-06 vehicles, just check that they have a similar fuse-box. Many have done this mod to their Silverados, I am sure it will work on your TB as well.

GREAT instructions and pics...  I just completed this mod earlier tonight and it only too my 20 minutes, and that was with hooking my aftermarket fog-lights up to come on with my DRL's...  Looks sweet at hell...  I now have 10 front facing lights...  The only thing is I have to replace my factory fog light bulbs, they don't match all the others...  LoL

Did this mod the day after I joined this site, then this weekend did this to a coworkers Silverado. Works great very cheap and very little time consumed doing this.

Finally did the four diode mod on my 2003, and I put in the ambers... only took me six years to get around to it.  Great instructions, I've got two friends planning to do it now.

Thanks for putting together such a great .pdf of this mod.  :yourock:

Just got back from Radio Shack!
Thanks for this post!  I have  been interested in this for years, but not inclined to mess around with it.  This looks like a nice clean approach.
I'll post when done!

As an added step, since I failed inspection because my fogs came on with the high-beams, I added a switch to "turn off" the Fogs-On-High part of the MOD.

Here's what I did:

From page 6 of the PDF file (http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/25638/ftdrlnstall.pdf), I disconnected the 3 diodes from the 85 line on the Hi-Beam relay, and soldered a short wire to the end of all 3 of these.

Then I took another wire and put it in the 85 line of the relay, where the 3 diodes used to be and replaced the relay.

I then ran the other end of both wires to a push-button switch that I mounted in the "lip" of the fusebox, and I leave this in the "On" position to keep my FTDRL's, and when I go in for inspection, I hit the switch to turn them "off" and pass inspection.

Once inspection is passed, I turn the switch back on...

done in 15mins...too cool.
I have not put the 5th one in yet, but probably will.
I take it that this setup negates the fog light switch in the dash?...or did I do something wrong?

thanks again.  this was soooooo easy and awesome!
