2002 Full Time DRLs - Instructions for UnderHood Mod

I just did this mod tonight.  Holy crap are they bright!  I cannot believe how much they light the woods I live in.
It is weird though how my system differs from what some are saying in here.

I did all 5 diodes.  I only got to test it at night.  On low- all lights but high beams are on.  On high- everything is on.  My favorite part is actually the 5th diode.  I hate always having to push the driving/fog light button every time my headlights come on.

I am curious to the total watts of light that are being lit with the All On feature.  Not to mention I have PIAA lights on my bull bar.

Lastly, standing 50 feet in front of my AV with All On was unreal!  I was literally blinded with light.  The AV looked like some off road, desert beast!

Awesome writeup vertabatt! Thanks! Hit up the RS last nite, doing the install tonite. Cant wait, plus my in channel window visors should show up today, so those go in as well! I'll post pics tomorrow, thanks again!

Ok, got done a little while ago and I love it!Cheap and easy mod. No pic yet though...one question for anyone....my new amber DRL lights are more of an amber color than just the amber parking lights. So now when they are both on, the DRL ambers are noticeably "brighter" than the amber running lights. Is it just because they are older, or a different brand, or, can I replace the parking lights with the same amber bulb part # that the DRL's call for? Thanks, Chadmack!

If this were true, I'd agree. But I can't shut them off at all when in normal nighttime mode. Daytime, I can control the fogs separate from DRLs, but at night the switch has no effect. It doesn't affect the little indicator adjacent to button switch either.

Other than these small items, my Year Round Christmas Tree looks great.

Are you saying to have them all on at once, just do the second diode, or do both 1 & 2 diodes? This will be getting done tomorrow night......  :D

After reading the PDF it clearly explains what I asked. I am going to take it one step further and go DRL's with Fogs. I have read here on how to keep the DRL's on constant, maybe that is the way to go, that way I just turn on what ever I want to add as I need...........

Anyone having problems using LED bulbs with or without this mod?
I just read through all 10 pages looking to see if anyone had these symptoms.

I have gone through 8 LED 3157 bulbs with this mod.
After a few weeks some of the LEDs in the bulb blow out and some flicker.
I have the exact same LED in my parking lights and never had to replace it once.
Any ideas as to what could be the cause?
I don't want to believe I am the first one with this problem on an 02 after all these years so can someone point me in the direction of a solution if there is one?
I have been searching the forum and so far I have come up blank.
Thanks

I certainly don't know what to tell you. I have had the 3157 led bulbs in the DRL's for and few years now with no problems. I did initially blow an led bulb when I put in in backwards since led's are polarized.

:D this is the best install ins. i have seen yet! now i have installed hids in my 2006 on the highs, lows, and fogs. to top it all off i put LED switch-backs in the turn signals, and LED DDRL's all in 8000k. I can light up a football stadium for real with this setup. The law ststes that when a turn signal flashes it has to be yellow, however this leads to different colored lights when looking at the front of our trucks at night, and depending on what color HID's you have it can sometimes look funny in my opinion. The LED switch-backs I used in my turn signals are a 8000k in color. when your are driving they are 8000k ice white but here is the cool part! when you put your turn signal on they flash amber yellow. Now when you look at the front of your truck at night the entire front displays every light in 8000k or what ever kelvin you choose, the turn signals switch in a millisecond to flash amber yellow to be within the legal aspect, and everyone knows that LED'S draw less on your electrical system and the HID'S do too after the initial start up. You gain in every aspect! Way cool, and with this all-on-mod with diodes I don't have to tell you how bright a avalanche is with all HID'S,LED'S, in 8000k is at night. If you park on a steep hill you could blind a a US Airlines 747 lol.. All with less demand on your eletrical system.. Hats of to the best avalanche site and all its helpfull members..

leaving monday for a 2 week fishing trip. I will take some as soon as i get back. and i will walk through the steps as well as help anyone aquire the right LED's for DDRL'S and the LED switchbacks for the turn signals.

I have a question regarding this modification.........

I performed this procedure a few years back with absolute satisfaction and I want to thank you for posting this in a format in which I was able to successfully add this feature to my Avalanche.

The increased amount of light I have at my disposal has totally spoiled me as I wish I could have this done on my other vehicles as well.

Q; Has there been any reported long term issues related to this modification?

      D.

I see..........

I decided not to include the DRL's with this mod so I only have (HI+LOW+FOGS).

I still have my original DRL bulbs in place at 115K miles on the odo.

You will want to do it on all your vehicles

ok lets see if these photos work. 1 is the led's i use for the drl's. 2 is the switchback led's for turn signals which stay white untill you activate the turn signal then flash yellow to be in compliance with all state laws. 3 is all lit up with all hid's(hi,low, and fogs, all in 8000k) and both led's(drl's and turn switchbacks) the goal is to have every light white or ice blue when looking at the av from the front and using all the hid's and led's you can light up a football stadium, all with drawing less on your electrical system than stock halogens. please note that the switchback turn signals are in 6000k so they are a little off however i have ordered some new ones and will be correcting the color soon. hope this helps. really cool looking!

If I remember correctly (it's been a while), they are 1914, or 1419, or 1491.  They come in a pack of 10 or so.  More than enough to screw up a couple times (like I did) before getting it right.....  >:D

the thing is that it does not have them numbers on them either, just has like a huge numbers and like amps/watts.

Just did a search on RS website....

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062576

These are the ones you want for the FTDRL/All-4-On-High.  (comes in pack of 10)

If you are planning on doing the All-4-On-Brake (separate MOD), then http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062579 are the ones you will want (will need 6 of them).
