Anyone having problems using LED bulbs with or without this mod?
I just read through all 10 pages looking to see if anyone had these symptoms.

I have gone through 8 LED 3157 bulbs with this mod.
After a few weeks some of the LEDs in the bulb blow out and some flicker.
I have the exact same LED in my parking lights and never had to replace it once.
Any ideas as to what could be the cause?
I don't want to believe I am the first one with this problem on an 02 after all these years so can someone point me in the direction of a solution if there is one?
I have been searching the forum and so far I have come up blank.
Thanks
The housing gets so hot that it melts the leds

Yep.
That is a known issue.
I went through a couple of bulbs and even had to replace the wiring so I stuck with regular bulbs.
Those are the ONLY regular bulbs left on my truck. Every bulb on the interior and exterior has been changed to LEDs or HIDs with the exception of those two.

Fantastic post.  Made it very easy and it looks great.  I love having the ambers on all the time.  Somebody earlier had posted that radio shack discontinued the diodes.  I found a bunch of them at my local shack, maybe they brought them back.

There you are. I was trying to remember your screen name after meeting you this past Sunday . I get mine from Parts Express. Bought 100 of them for $5 plus shipping. They have heavier leads than the ones from the Shack.

I am going to do the fogs on low and the all on high mods only, along with switching the lows to HID's that I have had for years. They (same bulbs and modules) have been fitted to 4 different cars now  (y)

BTW, where can I find schematics for the Avy ?

I have some larger value Diodes at work.  NTE125 standard recovery 1000volt 1A and 1N5399 1Kv and 1.5 A standard recovery.  Do you think these would work?  Overkill I know but I have them on hand.

The diodes recommended in the original post had thin leads so they didn't cause a conflict sharing the female socket with the relay legs.  If the diode leads are thicker, you may (or may not) have a problem fully seating the relay back in its socket.

Just did this mod yesterday worked like a charm and now nothing not working at all help!!!! :needhug:

When you say nothing is working at all, can you be a bit more specific?
No headlights?
No parking lights?
Or is it just that the DRLs don't come on at all?

Also just to clear the air, what year is your Avalanche?

AAh ha!!! I conquered that hoe!!! For anyone In the future reading this crimp the connector a little bit to make a tighter connection. Mine was loose

I went straight to the source. Guy hasn't been on in a year. So I got his email and emailed him. 200 plus shipping includes poles

hey everybody, so I noticed that my full time drl's are not working. I checked and the sockets were melted so today I installed new ac delco replacements and led bulbs. I still do not have working drls.  I have looked at the fuse box and everything is correct, anybody have any ideas? thanks  :help:

I'm not using LEDs but I'm having an issue getting my DRLs to work too. I'm gonna take it apart again once I get my truck out the shop for fuel pump n filter replacement

went outside today and walked around the truck to move some stuff to the back and noticed the drls are working now ??? don't know why but im still happy >:D

i did it and all in one right all the diodes and ambers about 45 min would been 20 but as the directions said for my fellow idiots i had one diode reversed and it would turn all on at once whenever there were any lights on so that took some playing also reversd the for on highs so when i turned on for light the hi beams came on that was entertaining i about left but i knew i would forget about it haha thanks guys great write up! :B:

I have a quick question and apologize if I missed it in the 31 pages of this thread.  Can I connect the diode to the parking lamp relay instead of to both the low and high beam relays?  In theory the DRL, should stay on with all lights since the parking/markerblamps stay on with both low and high beams?  My concern is that the parking lamp relay is bigger.  Would connecting to it blow the DRL relay?  Thanks.

The parking lamp relay should work.  All of these relays are working with 12 volts.  They are passing different amounts of current to their loads so they are probably sized differently due to the contacts making and breaking circuits carrying different amounts of current.
