I am seriously thinking of a 2002 AV, my local dealers have over 100 to choose from, yes, that many.

So, when the 2003's hit their lots I just assume I would get an incredible deal.

Say a list price around $37,000, has an invoice of $33,000, and usually $500 over, etc.

Now, what discount do you think a year old AV will get ?, and I bet there is a rebate too, and maybe zero percent.

I cannot see GM being able to eliminate rebates for 2002 or 2003 in this economy.

Yeah they should offer some good deals to clear out their 02's before the 03's arrive. I don't know what kind of deals GM will run on the 03's, definitely not as good as on the 02's

You might want to be careful as far as waiting too long to buy a left over. Last yr(2001) I was looking at a left over 2000 model z-71 ext cab that the dealer had and because the '01's had already hit the lot,Gm wasn't offering any rebates or nothing for the leftover '00 models. I had went in thinking that I could get a heck of a deal because it was leftover but I ended up with a better deal on the '01 model with the same options. Take into account that this was before the 9/11 attack and the economy down turn too though so it may be different since all that has taken place. Good luck to ya!

You should be able to get a good deal, but of course situation will dictate.....work with the dealership and you should be able to get yourself a good deal... :B:

Get it while the gettin's good!

You never want to say shoulda', woulda', or coulda'. Remember, that the sooner you nail down a great deal and take the AV home - you can start drivin' and moddin' it. ;D ;D ;D

Yes, you could wait. Maybe there will be a slightly better deal. (maybe not). But one thing for sure, while you wait the better selections are being bought, life is passing by, and opportunities are being missed. (just a thought - IMOHO)

3 weeks ago when I bought my Av, I saved $7300 off list. The dealer had about 30 of them, plus 3 2500's. There was a good selection then and I got the nearly exact combo of color and options I wanted at a great price. So, I guess it comes down to what is most important to you. Color/options, or just bottom line price. As the selection of "leftovers" dwindles, the most desirable combos will be gone. But the price on that "odd" color with the unusual option pkg. may be better yet.

I wouldn't hold my breath on expecting any similar deals on 2003's though.

Actually, my intention was that when the 2003's hit the lot, then the 2002's are now a year old and should be priced accordingly.

One dealer still has 36 AV's as of today, so I cannot imagine he will sell most of these in the next 3 or 4 weeks. He advertises about $7,000 off sticker right now, before they become "one year old".

I bought a 2002 because I liked the road/ding protection from the cladding. It also decreases interior noise. The AV doesn't really look "right" without the cladding, and for 2003 it's the SAME price without it. (i.e. I did not want to pay extra for cladding on a 2003.) I have a Forest Green AV, and I like the blend to the current grey cladding. I've seen 2003 colors on actual vehicles too (don't ask my how), and I'll stick with my greenie. The new blue is kinda cool, but the yellow is too light; haven't seen the dark grey color or cladding yet.

I bought a new 2002 unit that was $800 cheaper then the most recent delivered/built models too (GM increased the price incrementally $1000 in 2002); so take great notice of your 'top-line' sticker price.

After reading on what was new for 2003, I'm still happy with my decision. ;D

Are you saying that the 2003 does not come with cladding unless you order it? ?I thought it was an option that you could not have it if you wanted but that it came with cladding as standard.

Man, some of you should be salesman!

But I tend to agree. I bought a 1995 Nissan 240SX in September '95. The '96s were already on the lot next to the '95s, and it just so happened that Nissan decided to raise the price about $2k. I didn't get a stellar deal--there wasn't a lot of room to work on these cars (very low markup to begin with), but I got a substatially better deal on the '95 than if I had on the '96. I felt the sales guy would have not wanted to down as low on the '96, plus it cost more to start out with. In addition, this was on a model that they had to find for me to get the options I wanted. They brought it in from 300 miles away even!

I know Nissan sports coupes of 7 years ago aren't big Chevy trucks of today, but I like the logic of getting what you want now at a cheap price. Especially if the dealer has so much volume--what did he do wrong this year?

Here's the verbage from http://media.gm.com/

"The composite lower body panels -- called "cladding" or "body hardware" -- will be removed to create a new appearance package that will expand the appeal of Avalanche with a more traditional full-size pickup look that still provides Chevy's unique Convert-a-Cab System and Midgate for flexibility and function. Avalanche sales have already topped 100,000 units. Production of Avalanches with the new appearance package begins in the first quarter of 2003. The other Avalanche models will have darker color body hardware for 2003."

I guess it really isn't clear, is it? My strong suspicion is that they will charge for cladding at some point. ???

The potential removal of the cladding, and making it an option on the 2003's was the speculation until the last few weeks (since people could actually order the 2003's).

The 2003's (at least in the first half of the year) still have cladding (it isn't optional), but the cladding is a darker shade of grey, hence the revised body colors (e.g., a new blue).

There has been tons of discussion of this topic over the last several months -- if you're interested I'm sure a search will find it.

The WBH (With Body Hardware) option will be somewhere in the $700- $800 range according to some sources beginning in February or March of next year.

Both versions of the 2003 Avalanche will still be available then.

There are several topics over in the Avalanche Future/Vision Forum you can read for more detail.

Where are these dealers that have 30+ Avs left. I live in Louisville, KY and most dealers around here have less than 5. I am finally in the market to buy a 2002 av before the end of August. I am willing to travel anywhere in the country and drive the truck back if it is the right vehicle and price. Please post locations and names of dealers that have a large inventory of Avs. Thank you

Also, Fox Chevrolet (3 outlets around Baltimore) has quite a few. Their site is at www.autonation.com You have to then search for a local dealer. If you use zip code of 20707, it will show their Laurel, Maryland site which shows a 3 page inventory of Avs. Laurel is directly btwn. Baltimore and Washington D.C.

Hope this helps.

I think that there are quite a few still here in Nashville, that's not too far. ?What exactly are you looking for?

Thanks for all the delaers, I will give them a try. Just got my pre-approval form for 33k for an Av. I am looking for a Z-71 pretty much fully loaded. Must have is graphite leather with memory seats, and sun roof. If anyone knows where I can find one of these trucks let me know. I will be hunting for a good deal this weekend and hope to have one by the end of next week. I cant wait.

Oh great!

I hope the for sale forum doesn't get littered with a bunch of similar offers

:B:
DO IT NOW!!!!!!
It doesn't get any better than this vehicle. Picked mine up yesterday.....sort of an orphan, Red Z71, no On Star, sunroof, or convienence package, just power cloth buckets.....sat at the dealer since April02. I gave it a good home and couldn't be happier.
BTW, you almost copped my deal....List 37.500, sold for 33 even plus 0%....like borrowing your own money.

Jake

Well there is not much picking here in Louisville, but I found a few. Most dealers up fornt said they are selling them for invoice. Ofcourse the dealer that I went to that had a truck with the set up I wanted wanted to haggle around the price. The largest black at this time is my trade in. I owe too much on it since it doesnt it value at all. It is a fully loaded Ford Mustang GT convertible with less than 36k miles in near perfect condition. This is where the dealer really low balls me and tries to only offer 14.4k for it. I need at least 15k for it so that the rebate will pretty much pay for the difference I owe on it. So far not much luck in selling the vehicle. I am asking at the moment $16995, but will go as low as $16,500. So if anyone knows someone in the market for a used mustang have them check out autotrader and do a search for zip code 40272 for a pic.

Man I was so dissappointed yesterday that I couldnt get the deal done, so was my wife. One more local dealership to go to a see what they can do. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Monday I am driving a new AV.

I bought mine $200 above invoice and expect I could have gotten it for invoice if I shopped around! This was in March! No need to wait. Don't forget dealers get other incentives like discounts on their invoices so even at invoice they are still making a profit. :0:

DCraner, you talking about Pine Belt?? That's where I bought mine last month. They gave me $6,900 off list and had a pretty good selection. Last time I checked they still had 34 left.

PS Grab a blue one - they're the fastest ;)
