I replaced engine with 5.3 from 2003 Tahoe donner. (Never done this before. All by myself, alone, with helps from YouTube).
Engine started right up. Take for test drive- feel like transmission shifting not normal and engine stalls after 5 min driving. Shut it off, engine will start and Avalanche will muves after 5-10 minutes.
I replaced transmission (from the donnor). The same symptoms. Drove to my mechanick. Mechanic's scan shown MAF cod and multiple misfire. I clean MAF. Replaced all 02 sensors with correct from Denso, ACdelco spark plugs, Amazon wires. Fuel injector connectors was damaged (broken clip). I soldar new injector' pigtails.
Fuel pressure is 58 psi on the fuel rails.
I have ELM code reader. O2 sensors on both banks (upstream and downstream) acting normal. Short term fuel correction is looks normal.
I sprayed water on top intake manifold (around the gasket, injectors, vacuum ports) , sprayed propane from the toach bottle. I see no noticeable changes in idle.
I clean codes. Started engine. No cods. Revved engine to 2000 rpm, CEL start flashing. CEL stop flashing after release the gas.
Code: P0300. Nothing als.
My next steps:
1. Replace Crank position sensor.
2. Smoke test of air intake (I should to do this first, I don't have smoke machine).
Any recommendations will be appreciated.

I feel dumb for asking, but I presume the donor vehicle didnt display these symptoms before you did the swap, correct? Or were they installed sight unseen?

The reason I ask is because my dad's new to him pontiac montana had been idling somewhat rough. He has a code for a single misfire on cylinder 4. The long story short is that we discovered it had the engine replaced sometime in the past (presumably junkyard), and the block appears to be suffering from piston rings not keeping proper pressure in that cylinder. Which causes RPM variances, hence the misfire. It has new plugs and wires installed, and cylinder 4 did look a bit more fowled than the rest. We can clear the code and it will act fine until you go a bit hard on it, in which case the light will come back on and stay on.

You may want to do a compression test as well if you have not already. That montana is a bit older than these avalanches technology wise (still has cable driven..everything) so some things, like CEL behaviors can be a bit different I imagine.

What computer are you using for engine and tranny?

As 2002 and 2003 are not compatible.... they changed in 2003.

I did not check PCU for cods. It is good idea! I have CPU from this Tahoe. I'll try to see if any codes on the bench.
2003 Tahoe purchased from insurance action with front and rear damage. Front damage- bumper and grill, no damage on transmission cooler. Air bags intact. I drove Tahoe from the trailer and parked in my driveway. No Check engine light was on.

PCU, Throttle body, wire harness, sensors are from 2002 Avalanche. I overlooked Crank position sensor. I left from 2003 Tahoe. Maybe CPS is need to "learn".

Just spoken to friend of mine. Hi sad that if the CEL turn on after 2000 rpm, it is not a vacuum leak. Most likely- CPS need to be programed (re-learned).

Your friend is correct on the CPS re-learn. Your PCM still has the CPS calibration for your old engine. The difference with this calibration is how the PCM determines a misfire or not. So as long as you don't feel a misfire, go ahead and have it done (or do it yourself with a capable scanner) - eventually it will need done anyway. However be advised that a CPS re-learn will NOT fix a misfire (only resolve incorrect misfire detection).

Thank you. I have to by better scan tool. I have OBDlink MX+. This was purchased to flush PCM with LSdroid.
Do you have any recommendations? Something- sub $200?

Vident I-link 400 (Amazon). Think it's about $150. Get the GM version and download/install their latest software update.
Chinese manufacture and a little bit chinsey construction (figure that!!) but does most things, at least on my 2004 including crank sensor relearn, brake bleeding, injector balance, trans control, transfer case encoder motor position, etc. Reads and works with HVAC SIR ABS TCCM other systems etc. I have one. For the money you just can't beat it. If I could only have one scan tool - this would be it. I have no idea of all the things it is capable of - but I haven't found anything it can't do just yet. But still I like the Bluetooth/cell phone system better than a dedicated hardwired hand held scanner for many things.

Looks like Amazon is not listing the GM ones right now. Vident may be changing to a new model and closing out i-400s (i-700 may do the same on multiple makes without $60/pop for different makes, but I don't know that). Beware of buying any other i-link 400s unless you want to pay an extra $60. Still Amazon has a great return policy.

Here's an ebay one. Note that they list quite a few functions for GM (remember that all are definitely not applicable for Avalanche, but it gives you an idea). This place says they will confirm for you if it will do a particular thing on an individual vehicle.

Thank you. I relearned crank position with i-link 400(GM). No more cods. Vident email me that i700 wont do relearn crank position for GM.
I have other problem- 4l60 doesn't shift 3-4 properly. I have 4l65e with 200k unknown condition. Should I send tyranny to rebuild, or just play roulette and installed?

I would have it rebuilt before the install.

What's to lose?

It is all about money. Avalanche is not my daily driver. It has sentimental value. A lot of memories sins 2002. Plan to put it on the road and pass this track to my son in 2 years. My son is 14. So I have time.
I never rebuild tranny by my self. Small shop charged $800 - 1200 to rebuild it.
I purchase the donor Escalade on insurance auction (no breaks, leaking water pump. Small electrical issue-aftermarket audio (hack job installation and some one just cut the wire to remove it). Engine working runs good. OBD2 port is not working. Privies owner was a girl. I found business card with picture and some cosmetics inside. Some one scratched "Female Dog" on the hood (proof of my investigation skills). I hope she don't abused this car. I'll drop tranny oil pan today. I'll check for metal shavings. Will posted.

Money always plays a factor.

Off topic.
Yes, 2003 PCM is has a blue and a green connectors on donor Tahoe. I opened PCM case and it has the chip inside that controls idling on cable throttle body. This PCM can be easily converted to work with Red-Blue harnesses on 2002 AV. Now I have spear PCM. I have 2002 Escalade PCM and this PCM don't has that chip and it can work only with control by wire throttle body.
Thank you to answer my questions.
