2003 AV2500 Thermostat

Anyone know what thermostat is in the 2003 AV2500. I'm putting a HPP3 on and the place I'm ordering it from says the factory thermostat is 180 degrees, but my temp gauge shows more like 195 - 200 degrees.

That is essentially correct for the factory 180 - not to worry. the Rat runs hot even with a 160 thermostat. Also keep in mind that the gauge is stepped and basically about as reliable as an idiot light - mine jumps from 160 to 190+ in 1 second on warm up.

Ok now I must say that 195 - 200 is not technicaly hot by todays standards - emissions control requires a temp in that range to create the heat neccessary for the system to go into closed loop for proper fuel control and legal emissions output. Not disagreeing with you Gandy just saying it is not relly hot just normal - course I would want to take a bath in water that hot!

My other big-blocks don't run well if not in the 180-195 range. 210+ makes them a bit sluggish-stop and go traffic.

I have a question: Can we run a cooler thermostat (160 deg) with the Diablo? What are the pluses? The minuses?
