2003 Pic And New Info From GM!

there is no botton for the power mirrors alls you do is put the R/L selector switch in the middle and press the adj. botton the the R to put in and to the left to put out the mirrors

I really don't like that new traction system thinga-majigga...

Whatever happened to the old days of learning how to DRIVE CORRECTLY?! All I can picture is yet another soccer mom tooling down the freeway, dodging cars, gabbing on the cell phone with some false sense of security because her new truck will be able to recover her binary emergency reactions.

Like I heard someone say on some auto documentary, "I think people would drive a lot safer if they replaced the airbag on the steering wheel with a big metal spike."

First they neutered the F bodies with the system that limited wheel spin... Then was the skip-shift mechanism.... Baaahhhh! Gag me...

It's much easier to improve a vehicle than it is to improve the driver. Hence, Ford's redesign of the Explorer. (Guess what? It doesn't handle like a Mustang)and GM's insistance on Daytime Running Lights.
Durwin.

Oh, one last thing. Also the NHTSA's new rule that a "tire pressure" indicator will soon be included as an "idiot light" on the dashboard.

is this confirmed for the '03 Av's power folding mirrors feature? 'Cause it sure is different from the dedicated switch GM currently uses for its so-equipped vehicles (Escalade, Escalade EXT, etc)

That's the way they worked when I used them too. The same L/R toggle we have and the directionaly pad now controls the folding too.

Here's the photo that bobf was trying to post over in the no body hardware topic:

1) Well, Marc... The F-Body has a switch to de-neuter her TCS. And for $30 you can electronically neuter the "skip-shift."

2) Is the 03 AV gonna cost any more ??? >:D I drove mine out the door for under $30K. I figure I've got a few $ to spend on mods...

Hey Goo do you have this in high-res photo?

GM Intranet August 1
SPOTLIGHT
AVALANCHE TO BE OFFERED WITHOUT THE BODY HARDWARE IN 2003 .... Chevrolet plans to expand the appeal of the Avalanche by offering the truck without the composite lower body panels -- called "cladding" or "body hardware" -- beginning next year.
The Avalanche without body hardware will offer the same equipment packages and options as the original versions except for an optional soft top for the cargo area. The North Face edition and three-quarter-ton versions of the Avalanche, however, will not be offered without body hardware. The standard engine continues to be a powerful 5.3L V8 with 285 hp and 325 lb.-ft. of torque.

Safety enhancements for 2003 include a passenger-sensing system, dual-level air bags and the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system for child seats.

Avalanche has also made comfort, convenience and performance improvements for 2003 including:

Rear-seat entertainment systems with a DVD player and flip-down screen that feature the next-generation Radio Data System, and a custom-designed Bose audio system
XM Satellite Radio as an option on all models
Optional brake and accelerator pedals
A new multi-zone manual-control heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (standard)
A new electrical architecture
Better brake performance and improved fuel economy
Three new exterior colors: Charcoal Gray Metallic, Arrival Blue Metallic and Yellow (interim availability). The North Face Edition has a new medium gray interior.
The 2003 Avalanche without body hardware will make its first public appearance at the Texas State Fair in September 2002. Production of Avalanches with the new appearance package begins in the first quarter of 2003. The other Avalanche models will have darker color body hardware for 2003.

Has anyone seen the new charcoal gray metallic color yet?

Hi Jason! I thought you forgot about us. I am interested in those MODs you are working on or considering since I do not see myself selling my '02 for an '03. Please keep us posted.

Here's a new hi-res interior photo released today ...

I like the new tweeters ;D

Nice pic Goo! Thats the color I ordered. I like it without the bowtie in the seats. I mean I know it is a Chevy, I don't need 8" emblems on everyseat to remind me! And those Bose speakers look sweeeet. Though it looks like the little tweeters are pointed out at the windshield? Thought they would be pointed at the people inside but I am also an idiot and don't have a degree in acoustic-engineering. Zim mentioned that the center console was different. In what way?
Thanks again for the pic. This thread is the first I check.

The new console is wider and higher.

No more cup holder reverse mod.

Now includes the 12 volt outlets and ashtray where the old ones were more part of the lower dash.

This one has new Bose goodies underneath too ;D

Tweeters tend to be directional and can be prone to "beaming". In the confines of a vehicles interior this can often be alleviated by bouncing the high frequencies off of the winshield to help center the sound stage and improve imaging.

Damn Goo why did you have to show me this picture? You just made my color decision even harder. I love the new blue in this picture. The first pic of the new blue floating around that shows a front angle view made it hard to judge the color. I guess the lighting conditions made it look lighter to me. But this picture clears up that problem. I guess I'll have to buy a blue one a red one and an orange one. ;D

Anyone get a pic of the new dark grey color Av yet? or even Black with the new darker cladding?

Eric

I tend to feel that for the 'Performance guys', that the 2002 will now be thought of as a more 'primitive and original' AV. I would not be tempted to trade my 2002 beast for any of the 2003 differences, tho I am really partial to YELLOW, and would feel safer with the two-stage airbag,(I have a detached, surgically replaced retina). The money, I feel, would be better spent on aftermarket upgrades-there is so much neat stuff out there to add, especially for higher performance.
