Today, I had the opportunity to play with some of the new interior that the 2003 Avalanche will have by borrowing this newly delivered 2003 3/4 Ton. ?Yes, of course it had to rain today in Texas.

First of all, the color name for Forest Green Metallic (47U) has been changed to Dark Green Metallic (47U). ?It is not a new color as some people were thinking. ?

The three new colors for the 2003 AV are the Arrival Blue (replacing the Indigo Blue Metallic), Dark Gray Metallic and Yellow (which will be available beginning January 1st).

OK ... let's check this thing out ?;D

Note the new optional XM attenna.

The new console is wider than the current one. ?There goes my plan of swapping my lid for the new deeper one with the rubber bumps. ?The ashtray is removable for extra space. ?This new cup holder will not do the free 180 degree mod. ?Tried it! ?Notice the Bose speaker on the door.

This the new interior of the console. ?The new space is actually smaller. ?Makes me think that there are some new toys installed under this baby. ?Don't ask me what ?those new levels are for.

This is the new UC6 6 disc-changer that comes with the Bose speaker system (6-speakers, Bose amplifier and Bose Subwoofer). ?I tried to locate the sub and the vibration/air seemed to be coming from below the front console. ?I need to verify this. ?Check the hi-res for details on the controls. ?This is a fun new toy. ?Also pictured is the new dual zone climate control. ?It works. ?The driver climate zone feeds the rear.

I liked this. ?Captain, where would you like me to set the new coordinates? ?You can see the trip / drivers information window on the new 120 mph cluster. ?That is my shoe making a special cameo appearance

Look at what I found. ?Cool! ?Sure beats the factory sound system. ?Everyone who chooses this system will be happy. ?I wish this system had been standard on the '02!

I had a fun but rainy afternoon. ?What better way to spend it but with a parking lot full of toys. ?

I will be writing a review once their 2003 AV's are delivered ;D

excellent work goo!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D and nice pics. successful recon if i do say so myself. i only wish my truck came with that sound system, oh well cant have everything :cautious:

Thanks for the nice post.

Great pictures.

What kind of camera do you use?

Does the wider console take up any more leg room?

Still debating whether I want a console at all.

Man I hate new model years :8: makes me want to get one and spend $$.

Good work GOO did you have any SPY help? FRom a person in a white tshirt maybe?

Nope. ?

That is my light gray shirt and shoe in the pictures. ?I really didn't have time to choose the best possible non-reflecting angles considering what I was doing. ?I didn't retouch any of the photos. ?

I was dreaming of that truck all night.

I can't wait to drive the new AV ?>:D

I am using a Sony Cybershot DSC-P50 (2.1 megapixels) for now.

This sound system (6-disc changer and Bose speaker system) and rear audio controls comes standard with the different bucket seats available (A95/AN3) and can't be ordered as a "free flow" option. The bucket seats are also required if you want the new (U42) Rear entertainment system (DVD player, overhead monitor, wireless headphones, etc). But you can't have the (U42) if you choose the (CF5) sunroof.

my life is now full of RPO codes :2:

The space the new console takes up isn't really noticable as far as leg room goes. The only thing I noticed is the gap between the console and seats has been reduced. I had to check out my AV to see how they got away with this.

I know some of us wish they had your decision problem ;D

Nice work Goo!

I am wondering if that new instrument cluster would work on the 02. Been thinking about the Denali cluster but I like that one better.

Since you're a Deity, can you send some of that rain up our way? We could sure use it and you are probably tired of it anyway. ;D ;D

The '03 AV has new wiring and sensors to feed this cluster. ?Also, this baby is progammed from the new steering wheel controls. ?I think you will be happy with either the Denali or Escalade clusters ;D

Thanks, you had to go and say that. ?The thunderstorms have just picked up again. ?There goes my Sunday Cruise Night

See you in Cloudcroft. ?Tell your better half I will be ready for her ?;D

Wow! ....Again...Wow! Did I say Wow?
Thats some pretty cool stuff. I love that trip info in the instrument cluster.
Thanks for the recon Goo! Very nice werk! (y)

Excellent pictures!

What does the fuel pump button on the steering wheel do?

Things like the gear indicator and radio/hvac buttons look smaller than those in the 99-02 interior. Is that just an illusion because everything else is so much more spacious?

The fuel button on the steering wheel lets you scroll through the new personal/business trip computer. Shows you fuel used, average speed, average fuel economy, trip timers, 15-day vehicle speed history and annual mileage.

The new buttons and indicators did seem a bit smaller but were still easy to use. I suggest you receive a good presentation on using these new toys when you take delivery ;D

Yes, I did checkout the new mirrors. I need to take better photos for everyone next time without rain and timed exposure for the turn signal.

It was hard to show in a photo how this new mirror folds in via power. You use the square directional control. Also note the new window buttons ... they are hooked so you can grab them to roll the windows up/down.

Go for it. ?

I didn't have my tripod or plastic bag (to water-proof my camera) on me that day ?;D

So does that 1500 have the Bose system in it? ?I noticed it doesn't have OnStar or XM radio.

Thanks,

Good Work Detective Goo....Keep spying for us....maybe we need Jason to check out which components can be added to the 2002's....

Are they just changing the body style on the 2500 or does it change on the 2500HD too? Is there now a difference in the two (calling it HD)? ???

New For 2003:
  • Bolder and more expressive styling
  • Expanded alternative fuel availability
  • The most powerful line of three-quarter and one-ton pickups and chassis cabs in the heavy-duty pickup segment
  • State-of-the-art Duramax 6600 diesel V8
Here is GM's Product Overview:

CHEVY SILVERADO HD MODELS CONTINUE TO SET THE BENCHMARK FOR THE HEAVY-DUTY SEGMENT

Chevy Silverado Heavy Duty pickups continue to be the segment's most powerful lineup. For 2003, the Silverado HD will feature the same bold and expressive styling as the half-ton Silverado.

Comprehensive lineup
Silverado offers a wide selection of powerful three-quarter and one-ton pickups, including 2500HD (3/4-ton) and 3500 Series (one-ton) regular cabs, four-door extended cabs, crew cabs and chassis cabs.

For 2003, 14 different Silverado models can run on dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) or bi-fuel systems that operate on CNG or gasoline when equipped with a Vortec 6000 6.0L V8 with hardened upgraded valves and seats to withstand CNG's lack of lubricity and cooling effects. Special versions with reduced gross vehicle weight ratings (8,500 pounds) allow customers to meet fleet requirements in "non-attainment" areas. Higher-capacity 9,200 pound GVWR models are also available.

Powerful engines
Silverado HD offers an impressive array of powerful gasoline and diesel engines.

The Duramax 6600 6.6L diesel V8 - with world-class performance in an incredibly quiet package - kicks out 300 hp at 3100 rpm and 520 lb-ft (705 Nm) of torque at 1800 rpm.

An optional Vortec 8100 8.1L V8 gas engine has 340 hp at 4200 rpm and 455 lb-ft (617 Nm) of torque at 3200 rpm. For 2003, the Vortec 8100 receives a more efficient Denso starter that draws about 10 fewer amps.

The Vortec 6000 V8 produces 300 hp at 4400 rpm and 370 lb-ft (501 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm.

Smooth-shifting transmissions
The Duramax 6600 and Vortec 8100 are mated to smooth-shifting, high-capacity transmissions with close-ratio gearing to provide exceptional launch, hill-climbing and towing capability.

The ZF S6-650 six-speed is fully synchronized in all gears. Dual cone synchronizers in second and third gear provide extra capacity. The shift lever moves forward for first and straight back for reverse, providing easy low-speed maneuvering since users don't have to go across the shift pattern to select "reverse." Second can be used for launching unloaded or lightly loaded trucks. First gear can be used as a "creeper gear" for extra low-end performance.

The Allison 1000 was built to move tonnage. It has full electronic control of shift-timing points, five forward speeds, and helical-type planetary gearsets for quiet operation. It also provides two operating modes, normal and Tow/Haul. When hauling heavy loads down long, steep grades, a grade braking mechanism automatically downshifts to help slow the vehicle when the driver applies the brakes.

A heavy-duty, five-speed manual transmission and GM's optional Hydra-Matic 4L80-E four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission are available for the Vortec 6000. The 4L80-E also provides Passive Shift Stabilization with Tow/Haul mode and a standard temperature gauge and temperature monitoring system.

Impressive hauling, trailering capability
With awesome power, tough frames, advanced suspensions and high-capacity brakes, the 2500HD/3500 Series provides outstanding payload capacities and impressive hauling and trailering capabilities. The 3/4-ton models have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) as much as 9,200 pounds (4,173 kg), and payloads as much as 3,964 pounds (1,798 kg). The one-ton pickup models have a GVWR of as much as 11,400 pounds (5,171 kg) GVWR and payloads of as much as 5,753 pounds (2,610 kg). Silverado HD has an 11,400-pound (5,171 kg) GVWR for 2WD chassis cabs and 12,000-pound (5,443 kg) GVWR for 4WD chassis cabs. Chassis cabs provide payloads of as much as 6,089 pounds (2,762 kg).

Both the Vortec 8100 and Duramax 6600 diesel V8 tow as much as 12,000 pounds (5,443 kg); they provide a maximum 22,000-pound (9,979-kg) gross combined weight rating (GCWR).

With a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch, trailering capability increases to 15,800-pounds (6,804 kg). The Vortec 8100 provides its maximum ratings with either a 4.10:1 or 3.73:1 axle ratio; the Duramax 6600 offers a 3.73 axle ratio.

With a weight-distributing platform hitch and 4.10 axle ratio, the Vortec 6000 V8 permits towing trailers weighing as much as 10,500 pounds (4,763 kg), and provides a maximum 16,000-pound (7,257-kg) GCWR.

The heavy-duty pickups are trailer-ready. A handling and trailering package is standard. A trailering equipment package provides the weight-distributing hitch platform, eight-wire trailer harness with mounted connector and a jumper harness with a plug-in for the electric trailer brake controller.

Roomy, safe and secure
Regular, four-door, extended and crew cab sizes have significant interior room and outstanding seating comfort. The extended cab has the industry's largest rear-door openings. A standard four-wheel disc brake system features GM's powerful Hydro-Boost brake-apply system and four-wheel ABS.

The 2500HD/3500 Series has the OnStar system, standard on uplevel Silverado LT extended cab and crew cab models. OnStar is an innovative in-vehicle communications and assistance service designed to provide drivers with access to live, personalized service and emergency assistance at the touch of a button, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Customers can use OnStar for hands-free personal calling or can have e-mail read to them, in addition to other OnStar services.

All models have standard dual air bags, with a passenger-side deactivation switch on regular and extended- cab models to protect small occupants.
