2004 AV DIED!!!

today my 04 AV died...seems all the electrical went out. On-Star said it was two error codes - P0622 & P1637

time for the tow truck....4K miles - this shouldnt happen

DTC Definition: Generator L-Term. Circuit

By the sounds of it there is a problem with your alternator. Might want to check the connections to be sure they are secure.

1st Time I have Heard of an ALT. Failing that quickly --have you done any mods to the electrial system ?

I'd put a DVOM on the battery... see if there's voltage.... did you try to jump start it?

Connections are a concern... also a fusable link possibility

Let us know what they find... I bet its simple... possibly remote start related.

it's wierd - if it sits for 10-15 mins it gets more power to start but still not enough to turn over....

It's going into the shop shortly. Will see what they find out.

Hopefully wont be more than a day or so...they will be holding up my mod plans!!!
 
started fine with a jump - it was taken away..

my wife told me i looked like i lost a relative.....

she doesnt understand this is far worse than losing a relative!

can be as stupid as loose battery cables, if they did instalation and did not tighten up cables right, that will do it, you say that after while seams to have more juice to go , but not to start truck, alternator can not fully charge battery if connectors are loose, I did see even alternator damage thanks to bad connections.
lets hope it is something easy.
 
I heard of a Silverado that had a shorted diode(s) in the new alternator; blew the fusable link. Dealer-"quick fix".
No probs since the last time I talked to him..
 
Well dealer just called me - the idiots who installed my Amp a few weeks ago never grounded it correctly thus causing the wiring to finally melt and shortout the electrical system in the truck.

Truck will be back Thursday - Then I'm gonna take the bill from the dealer and shove it up the @SS of the stereo installer.
 
Oh my...Please keep us posted on that turns out. I certainly hope you get reimbursed!

The stereo installer is saying that GM is playing games and there is no way this could have happened. He said GM doesnt want to take blame.

I told him he is getting on a conference call with the mechanic and those 2 can fight it out.

And there you have it. Wouldn't have happened at any mileage were it not for the addition of the booming stereo ;)

Will be interesting to hear how the stereo installer responds. Remind the stereo installer that small claims court is perfect for this, should they not accept their fault.

I suppose there is a bright side to this ....

Your lucky the wiring didn't heat up sufficiently to start a fire :8: and cause substantially more damage.
 
I've had wires melt from amps installed in a vehicle before. Unfortunatly I had no one to blame but myself. Seems the wire I used for the ground was split in the middle, and about a week later I could smell this burning odor in the car. Came to find out that the positive wire insulation had melted and was burning the carpeting behind the back seats ( it was a 92 Camaro ). I was pissed, but lucky. Anyway, it's possible, depending on where the wire melted. Left this huge burn track in the carpet fabric as well.

Hopefully either the installer will pay you back, or the chevy dealer will take responsibility and refund your money ( don't know who's fault it is ).
