2004 Non-Bose Replcement

Hello all -

I just got my 2004 Z71 at Christmas. I got the standard radio (No Bose) with steering wheel controls. I'd like to replace the head unit, all speakers, add an amp (or 2) and install a sub. I'm not looking for booming bass, I would prefer the best possible clarity of sound. Not really much of a hip-hop/rap fan.

The catch: I want to be able to retain my steering wheel controls and have OnStar continue to function through the stereo speakers. I have cloth interior with the bench seats.

I've done some searching throught the forums and found the custom sub-boxes that do not interfere with the mid-gate, so that probably solves my sub and sub amp problem. I would appreciate any help and/or recommendations for the rest including installers in the Colorado area that folks trust. I live in Vail, but would drive to Denver for an install.

Thanks.

I have the same issue? Have you found anything yet? I also want to retain my steering wheel controls and Onstar? Let me know.

onstar is not a problem! there is a unit called stargate that we use for the onstar and it works GREAT. There are many other companies that make the same thing to. as for the steering controlls, there is another unit that makes it work. allthough i dont remember the name of it. I believe it is made by PIE.

HEre is the answer to your prayers (y)

Let me know if you order it and how it works out for you. Have no purchased one yet but could potentially do so when I change out the radio

there you go. my mistake, its PAC not PIE. too many simular names out there. but yea they work good, once you get them programmed right. it might take you a fiew times to get it all right.

Thanks for all of the input. I've done a little research and that SWI-X is the answer to my radio woes. I'll post when ordering and give a report when received.

Does anyone know of good installers in Denver? I'm a little wary of going to a Car Toys or similar - they told me the only way to connect my iPod was FM modulation and that if I put an aftermarket head unit in there was no way to retain my steering wheel controls.

Thanks again for all the advice, it is appreciated.

I just want to revive this thread now that some people have tried this stuff. I am looking to remove a non bose HU and replace with an Eclipse HU, amps, the works. The Av is an 05, non-Bose, with On Star, and steering wheel controls.

the best replacement I have seen that allows for all of the "factory stuff " to
work is the Kenwood .. here is the link Kenwood's new P-NAV7015 I have been reading and asking a lot of questions about this one . If I were going to go with something other than an in car pc , I would go with that kenwood . Enkei can get you a great price on it ..

I am just looking to use the 3 year old Eclipse Head unit I have. Just want killer sound with no issues with the truck ECM or On-star. Steering wheel controls retained would be a bonus. I would be happy if I just was able to keep the Steering wheel controls that do other funtions beside the sound system.

Have you seen this part?

Quiet!
Stupid questions are those we never ask.
