Hey All. Ok so my 2005 Z71 LT 1500; tranny died on interstate. Speedo needle just flashed up; struck stopped pulling and I had to maneuver to the shoulder. As I came to 30 mph my Avie started pulling. But for the next 5 hours until got back home; I was tack limited about 4200 rpm or 55 to 62 mph.

Not quite limp home mode;

But days later I was encouraged that my problem was as simple as some of you all here. Sadly does not so seem. I replace speed sensors. Did someone ask which ones or how many? Whomever said one; got it so wrong. I replaced the speed sensor on the passenger side. Well no change. Next tps; nothing; old cheap actron scanner said. p0502 sensor A. A I thought. What A? As if there is a B or C? Talked to a bunch of folks. No body knows anything about an A or why that old beat down 20 year old Actron even referenced as A. Well to be sure I about had it with all those smart folks not being so smart.

So I got out the title and called a dealer. Told them my plight and asked where the speed sensor is located? They want the full vin. Ok. I next her this. Hum well I'll be dang. Hey Chevy man, if you be dang; Lord Have Mercy on what I be. So tell me sir please. Well he say; your truck got 3 of those dang speed sensors. Crack. Phone like fell. What do you mean sir 3. Yeah one on the top of the tail, one on the right side of the tail (4x4) and one on the left side of the tail. Chevy man tells me thats a first for him. In fact I had 2 Avies. Identically white with grey leather LT's An 04 and an 05. Crooks in Maryland stole the 04. Didn't think such was possible. Well If ya have a master GM Key, sho it is. Replaced all 3. Still no operational tranny. So now I am thinking it's tranny time.

Hard to say; not consistent. Seems when cold will pull off in first, then shift to second and as soon as gets warm, pulls off in 2nd and may or may not go to third. Ifs its the tranny ok; Unless someone may know a possible solution. If so please help out and thanks.

First off, welcome to the site.

Second, if I am understanding your description of the failure correctly, it sounds like you are experiencing a classic transmission failure and you are in line for a transmission rebuild.

Most likely, there are clutches that are burned up and swapping out sensors and such is not likely to solve this problem.

Driving it at 4200 rpm is not good for too long and tells you that there is something wrong, if you can't drive at 50 and the rpm's are higher than 2000 rpm's then I would have called the tow truck to come get me and have a tranny shop look at the truck, you may have done more damage to the tranny then was first being presented. R.

Late Post but sounds like the tranny. Mine did a similar thing recently, not sure but I think I broke a sprag. It would go slow but I didn't drive it more than enough to get it off the road.
Rebuilt the transmission and back off to the races.
