2007-2013 Takata Airbag recall approved.

Dropped my 2007 Avalanche off for the airbag recall this morning. Got a call back an hour later saying they were done with it. All they did was some "27 point inspection" and ordered the new airbag kit. Will call when they receive it. No estimate on how long it will take to get the kit.

Seems to me they could have ordered the kit when I called about it, but this way they get to charge GMC for the inspection they did.
Checking for dash cracks maybe? Strange

For anyone wondering, the passenger airbag assembly is unbolted from below, behind the instrument panel's front trim plate. The front trim gets removed exposing access to the bolts. Once unbolted the whole assembly pops up and out from the dash. If you have a dashskin they should have no issues working around that. GM does not do any disassembly of your dash, so unless your dash is to the point that the airbag assembly is flopping around don't expect a replacement. They'll pop the trim, unbolt, take out and then pop right back in the new airbag having never touched the broken dash. They can probably do it within 30-45 min. The airbag assembly for the steering wheel is even quicker with an experienced tech probably taking less than 10-15 min (depending on whether they're replacing only the inflation assembly or the whole part with new trim and logo).

Thank you for the info. I was hoping for this, them being in the truck as little as possible. Crossing my fingers that they don't break anything when popping off the trim, or scratch up the interior,....

It's been over two weeks since I brought my Avalanche in for the passenger side air bag replacement and the parts were supposedly ordered.
Still haven't gotten a call that the parts are in.

I have had 5 appts with my dealership for the airbag. I have included the campaign number, they say the parts are in, then I call the day before, and the parts are not in! I have another appt next week!

Today was approximately 3 1/3 weeks since I took my Avalanche in for the air bag recall and told they would call me when the parts came in.

Since I hadn't heard from the service center I decided to call. Ended up talking with the parts department and was told that they had received a bunch of air bag parts a few days ago. He checked to see if any of them were for my Avalanche and found a kit with my name on it. Switched me over to the service department and they set up my appointment for 0830 tomorrow morning.

Anyone know how long it takes to replace the passenger side air bag?

Maybe they can just "pop" in right in there.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

:ROFLMAO:

NVABob, thank you for the update, keep us posted. My 2013 is scheduled for next week!

Took my Avalanche in at 0815 this morning for the airbag recall appointment. Got a call back at 1237 that the Avalanche was ready to be picked up. Everything looks good inside...no cracks in the dash or loose bits hanging around under the dash.

Thank you for the update(y)

A few days ago I got a recall notice from GM about the Takata Airbag but it said they didn't have the parts so they can't recall my 2008 Avalanche right away. Because my parents have a 2010 Suburban but didn't receive such a letter, how many other people here have gotten a recall notice and if anyone knows whether GM has parts to replace the airbag system that would greatly help. Note, I've tried looking for threads about this and I haven't found anything so if there is one, I apologize.
Hello I have an 07 and received the same notice had mine repaired week later at My local dealer. Also had coworkers with a 2013 and 2010 silverado and they had theirs replaced as well. Could be the dealer your going to.

Also if you haven’t registered with NHTA you should do so I did that as well.

Dealer replaced my 2013 airbag last week. Went smoothly. .

Just got a reminder card in the mail about the airbag inflator recall. I'm a little concerned about damage to my dash since I only have one small crack and would hate to see it turn into a much larger crack or cause any additional damage. I called my dealer and talked to the service tech and he said that while most of the replacements go very smoothly, they have had some issues with cracks while doing the repair. Of course he said they will not repair any damage that may occur, especially since the dash is already cracked. I'm curious how many of you (if any) that have had the repair done, have experienced any new cracks, or increase in the existing cracks, since having it done. Might just skip it altogether.

I personally didn't skip the recall since it's a safety issue (old bags could inflate prematurely and send metal shards into the person near it.) I have not noticed any cracks after the replacement.

Had mine done a few weeks ago…no new cracks. First thing the service rep did, was to take pictures of the dash.

From the looks if it they did not even remove the plastic cover I have over my dash. still looks like the same bad installation job of when I put it in

Good to know, I've never even seen underneath this one I've left it alone didn't want to re glue it or two side tape it back in. Already fit looks slightly off my dash sensor barely cleared edge. Whole thing seems shifted passenger side, previous owner could have used incorrect cover maybe different year or model.
One day I'll remove it & see if cracked like I've heard so many others are, or if previous person covered to try keep it from cracking?
Have feelings it's cracked & covered tho😕.

The airbag slides out without ever touching the dash.

I couldn't imagine my partner dying in front of me because I didn't get the recall done.

Becareful,,,,I took my 2010 in this week to do the recall of the passenger air bag,,,,I had NO cracks in the dash when I took it in and dropped it off,,,,when I picked it up half an hour later there was a crack right where they were doing the work.....The dealership after the fact said it was cracked before they started work on it,which is untrue,,,,,,I talked to GM in Oshawa and they more or less told me to take a hike.....Not good,,,,but after doing more research it sounds like they have a major problem with cracking dashboards on their vehicles......Anyways if your taking yours in for the recall and DON'T have any cracks make sure you take pictures before or get the service guy to verify when you bring in the truck.....Its bad when the dealer does damage to your vehicle but doesn t admit to it....

I made an appointment for 3/3. I've never used this dealership for anything before which added to my hesitation. (The one I would have taken it to went OOB.) I've taken pictures and spoken to 2 different advisors who both seemed aware of the issue and reassured me they would be careful. I guess we'll see.

I plan to take many pictures before, unfortunately not many honest business anymore & employees just trying cover their own butts. It's unfortunate we have to prove everything with photos or video I bought dash camera & religiously take photos of most things before trusting anyone with my property.
It has helped in many ways most recently kitchen remodeling & crooked contractors. I luckily have plenty evidence but never fun I dislike courts & process take ages to resolve anything.
Don't want to remove cover but hearing some have cracked more or new definitely need before images.
