Airbag light on. Reader reporting B0087 Code Left read side impact sensor.

Does anyone know where to check for this one? I can't find any documentation on it. I figure its somewhere in the door panel or in the frame around the lower left back door.

I have the exact same issue as the OP. Can someone pleaSe tell us where this sensor is located so I can check the connection or maybe replace?
Thanks.

The only real info I can find at this moment is weirdly it's rock auto listing for the part numbers. They show available sensors for the front, a pair for the front left/ right (door mounted) and rear left/ right (door mounted). So i'd reason to believe that they are within the door itself in order to trigger and deploy the side curtain airbags. Which correlates with the "side impact" portion of that code.

The front impact sensors are definitely under the radiator. I can see them from underneath. If RA says those are in the door - that's incorrect.

Back to the rear impact sensors. I took the pillar trim off and found a Yellow connection which is indicative of anything airbag-related. This yellow connection is connecting to the seatbelt mech and no sign of the sensor.

So I guess the question is which door is this sensor likely in? The front or rear? I don't want to remove in error can I am confident these 14 year-old plastic snaps are gonna break.

Thanks

Well, yes, the "front" impact sensor is under the radiator support.

My list was stating that there was one part for the front, then another part for the front row seating, and then a third for the 2nd row seating. All positional sensors were listed with door mounting which I can find information on that being the case for other models of the era and going forward.

I suppose if you wanted to be "nosey" just to double check before pulling the panel, you could attempt to inspect the wiring coming out of the door.

I also found this thread listing the locations of these and other sensor locations for this generation Avalanche/Escalade/Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon

I just downloaded a GM service manual and you're correct. It appears to be in the front left door. Any advice for pulling the door panel without breaking things?

I'd say do it when it's not cold out. Plastic clips like to break when cold. Otherwise, it's pretty straightforward...

1aauto has a video for panel removal youtube
