Hi, I very been a new member for awhile but haven't posted.
I purchased a 2007 Chevy Avalanche ltz from a friend and found out recently my air suspension needs replacement.
Fortunately his son is a mechanic and said it was hanging pretty badly and could replace for $3,000.
I feel a bit ripped off as my 'friend' was aware prior to the purchase and told me I couldn't haul my power wheelchair on the back.
I've never had the luxury of air suspension. Can someone please explain this to me? I would sincerely appreciate any help.
Thanks, peacewoodcarver@yahoo.com

I replaced the front shocks, rear air shocks and air compressor on my 2004 EXT with gear from Arnott back when I first bought my truck used back in 2012.

After over 9 years and more than 125K miles, I replaced the Arnott rear air shocks and air compressor again with new Arnott parts.

Even after having my mechanic perform the installation the first time, I was out less than $1000 for parts and labor.

Yours seems a tad high to me.

Go to the Arnott website and find the part numbers you will need.

Then shop the Internet for your best prices.

I found good prices at Rockauto.

I replaced this last round of parts myself in my garage.

It's not that difficult.

First welcome to the website peacewoodcarver!
The basics are that the LTZ suspension is an auto leveling soft ride system where the compressor pumps air into or let's air bleed out to account for heavy loads, towing etc. It allows for a smooth Cadillac type ride and keeps the AV level.
Some members have tried to replace the system with standard non leveling shocks with mixed results and usually warnings showing up on the dashboard since it doesn't know you put non air parts in place of factory setup.
I assume your ability to work under your AV is limited since you mentioned a power wheelchair so i would follow EXT4ME advice too get Arnott or GM Delco official replacement parts and have a mechanic you trust install them for you.
Good luck.

Thank you so much.
Fortunately the sellers son is a certified mechanic and willing to do the repairs and replacement with a very good discount for his labor cost. He just replaced the muffler for only $100. The seller is elderly and feels a responsibility as he didn't understand just how pricey replacing the suspension would be.
