A little over a month ago I bought a 2007 Chevy Avalanche LS most gold for 10k. It has 153k miles. Some surface rust I can fix myself when spring comes. I live in Michigan so buying a truck with no rust is much more expensive. I had a mechanic over 50 years inspect and drive it. Everything functioned mechanically. I've been driving it for a month and I decided to disable the stupid cylinder deactivation system with the range AFM disabler device. I change my oil every 3k miles. How long can this truck last me? Did I get a good deal? Did I buy a reliable truck for it's Year and mileage?

Good Deal is a personal thing only you can decide.
Reliable is also opinion...and will depend on way too many things to say right now.

I agree with above post, a lot of factors in play to answer your questions. Also welcome to the website and AV ownership.
If all you do is read the problems section of this website you may get scared about the AV but you need to realize not all owners are members then many posts are from owners who do have an issue and they can be very vocal about their issue and mention it in several threads so it tends to exaggerate the true number of problems and not give an accurate picture of the percentage of owners with issues.
Face it very few people post things like "I drove my AV today and nothing bad happened!" so you don't read about all the happy owners unless you read the sections about the "high mileage club" or the hopeful posts made each year from optimists wishing for a return of the AV. Then you have posts about those owning more then one AV or the polls that ask something like would you buy another AV etc........
As far as your individual AV is concerned it's life span will depend on how it was maintained early by other owners and how well you maintain it from now on. Assuming there was no flooding, accidents, abuse or neglect it has the potential to last a very long time.

I think you should keep doing what you're doing.
But when the av is dirty from road salt don't put it in a nice warm garage leave it outside in the cold until you have time to wash it off.
