Hello there,

I have a 2011 chevy avalanche with 245 000 km on it. Got work done on it this spring, the valve had a hole in it. They replace the valve & the listers. Since then the engine has about 2000 km on it. I drove it for a 4hour road trip and started it twice after my arrival to the destination. On the second time starting/using it, a lot of white smoke came out of the exhaust pipe. I used a code reader and it said P0420 on Bank 1. Though this might explain why there is white smoke I feel that the issue is within the engine as it slowly started dying shortly after starting it. I started it once more to drive it to put my car in a more secure location and the engine rumbled/clanked twice on a distance of 2km. Weirdly enough the white smoke stopped coming out moments before the engine made noises.

Please let me know if you have any idea what might be causing this issue. Not the most knowledgeable car owner out there but still will take as much help as I can get.

white smoke tends to mean coolant in combustion.
Blue/grey = oil in combustion.
Black sooty = to rich aka too much fuel.
.

One possibility to rule out, check your Oil level, if much higher than full mark (and maybe off color if still hot) then probably blown head gasket (or something worse like cracked block) and coolant in oil.
