This past spring I picked up '13 Z71 with 93K on the clock. Shortly there after I spent some 7 weeks at home (COVID drill). Pretty much into summer before the problems started. Random high oil consumption. So I did my first oil change and that brought on problem #2: low oil pressure. So every few weeks my truck would suddenly be down a couple quarts of oil. One fine day the truck rolled 100k and a couple days later I lost cylinder #1 with flashing lights and horribly shaking motor. Decided if I'm pulling this engine out, I'm not putting a 5.3 back in.

In my most rushed, ill prepared swap ever, I ordered up an L9H 6.2L complete drop out from the local recycler. Didn't need all that. A long block with intake and injectors is all you need. Everything bolted right up and plugged in. I just had the extra AFM connector in my harness I taped up and tucked away behind the motor. I used all my original accessories, water pump and starter as they were known to be good.

I purchased a VIN license for my EFI-Live and a Facebook ally provided a stock '13 Silverado 6.2L file. Spent a few hours editing my original LC9 tune file against the L9H comparison. Trouble is, the truck would fire and then die like it wasn't getting fuel. I flashed the original calibration back in and it would run(ish). Turns out Schrams gave me an L92 6.2L out of a 2009 Denali (researched the VIN). It has smaller fuel injectors. A few more hours editing my tune against an L92 file and the truck was purring better than it ever had. The wife commented on how good it sounded.

So anyway, it's a really easy swap. Two long weekends by myself. The only modification required is the ECM calibration. Truck was down for two weeks, the first spent diagnosing and then sourcing a motor.

I am not allowed to post pictures or videos on this site. I took a lot of them though for wire routing and clip locations.
After a few more posts, the ability to post pictures will magically appear to you.

Looking forward to your pictures.

Now I'm starting to see all these rear end failures on facebook. Nobody in my family ever broke a rear axle and we all did a lot of towing. More GM post restructuring penny pinching?
