2013 USB/iPod track order and directories question.

I just purchased a 2013 Black Diamond Avalanche with the factory touch screen navigation/infotainment system. There is 1 USB port in the center console storage area. I also own a 2010 Camaro which also has a USB port which I use a (I believe 7th generation) 120GB iPod Classic with to great success. Even though the Camaro doesn't have a full color touch screen it supports the iPod and plays songs from it exactly how you would expect it would. It essentially duplicates the iPod's menu structure. For example, you can select an artist and then you are presented with an option for all songs followed by a list of albums. You can select an album and then you are presented all of the songs in track order.

I plugged my iPod into my Avalanche and was surprised that it doesn't seem to work the same way. I can get a list of all of the artists, but if I select one, I don't get a list of the albums for that artist. Instead I just get all of the songs, in alphabetical order. If I select albums instead of artists, I get a raw list of all albums in alphabetical order. If I select one, I get the tracks for that album but not in track order, in alphabetical order.

What am I missing? What am I doing wrong? Chevy had it right back in 2010, how can it be so wrong with a newer system?

Is it because my iPod classic is too old? Would a newer one work the way I expect it to?

I also noticed the same limitation when I placed a few artists/albums directory combos onto a USB stick. I keep all of my MP3s sorted by artist/album on my home file server/NAS. With my USB stick, I did have the option to select a folder view, but it seemed to ignore the 2 level artist/album structure and just showed the album names, once again in alphabetical order. At least with this view once I select an album it does show the tracks in order by number.

Once again, what am I missing? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!
