Dates: July 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th

Riverboat Inn and Suites
906 E First St
Madison, IN 47250
Phone 812-265-2361 And tell them that you are with the Avalanche Truck Club

The Riverboat Inn and Suites are located on 5 beautiful acres along the banks of the Ohio River. There is the main hotel and several smaller "lodges". The buildings set high up on a hill overlooking the river with a view of the Madison/Milton Bridge (some rooms). We will need to register and sign in at the main building, from there you will be directed to the building where we are staying. No matter what lodging choice you make we will all be on that 5 acre riverfront lot. The hotel has golf carts that we can use on their property and there is parking for each building.

We have 2 complete buildings saved for us until June 20th 2014.

The Paddle Wheel building has 24 rooms with either 1 king or 1 queen bed.

There are 2 rooms that can be  converted into 2 twin beds. Be aware that the rooms are small size and there is no room for roll away beds etc so these rooms may not work for those with kids. Jomomma, Didit, Lu & I visited the hotel and viewed several rooms. The rooms all have hardwood floors, are all decorated well and are clean. They each have a small refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker and a LED TV. There is a desk or table and a couple of chairs in each room. The owner says that they bought all new mattresses at a local furniture store and that they are great quality however we did not stay so I can't say that for sure. There are covered porches and a LARGE party deck at the river end of the building on the second floor!

THE PADDLEWHEEL PARTY DECK overlooks the Ohio River, the bridge and the main hotel.

Also the owner said if anyone wants to stay a extra day or two, there will be another $10  discount for those days!

The Captain's Quarters building is located just 20 feet from the Paddle Wheel and is a lot roomier.

There is one 3 bedroom (that we did not get to see because it was rented at the time) There are 8 two bedroom units. They would be great for families or for couples wanting to share a condo. They have one master and one smaller bedroom, a small kitchen and one or one & a half baths. We visited the Captain's Quarters and the rooms all have hardwood floors and are decorated well and are clean.

The Riverboat Inn is Madison's only American owned and operated hotel! Kathie, the owner was a pleasure to deal with. She says that their hotel is very popular with car and motorcycle clubs and they offer fantastic photo opportunities along the river. There is a large tent that stays up year round and Kathie agreed to let us use it on Saturday for our "Show & Shine". The main hotel serves breakfast, has a outdoor pool (small) and has entertainment on their large rear porch on Friday and Saturday nights. Guests staying in any of their facilities are free to use these and all hotel services. Pet friendly at $25 per stay (not per night) upcharge. Rooms are no-smoking, you can smoke out on the porch, deck or patio.

If you have "points" or "rewards" at other hotels and wish to stay there, there are a few to choose from in Madison but understand that they may be a few miles from this host hotel. You can search HOTELS, MADISON, INDIANA for a list and links.

CAMPING?

Madison has Clifty Falls State Park, it fills up fast so reserve a spot as soon as you can!

RESERVE A CAMPSITE AT CLIFTY FALLS STATE PARK

The City of Madison also has a small campground that is right on the river banks just a block from our host hotel! Again it is a small campground and I would guess that it fills up fast.......

RESERVE A CAMPSITE AT MADISON CITY PARK CAMPGROUNDS

Didit & Lu have camped at the city park and maybe Clifty Falls and should be able to offer more information and maybe some pictures!

When you reserve your room please let us know. I will keep track so that we know how many rooms that we have left in our block.

ROOMS RESERVED:

  1. Butch & jomomma 1 room in the Paddle Wheel.
  2.

There are pluses and minuses to both campgrounds...........

Lets start with the Madison City Campground

I spoke with Burlyn and Jason (parks caretakers) to make sure I got the right information.
There will be no reservations until April 1st unless we can guarantee a block of say ten or so campsites, the river front sites are awesome however they ARE small, period.  Yes motorhomes will fit on the pad.  Fires allowed in the fire pits, running water and electricity at the site, dump station around back!  25 bucks a night at this time.  Alcohol allowed as long as you don't get stupid and obnoxious, did I mention the sites are small!  Its advertised,  but NO tent camping, however Jason said if there is an RV on  the site then a small tent is allowed for the kids or grandkids, and yes pop up campers qualify as an RV. Also AV tents are permissable. Slow wi-fi. There is a restroom with shower, one shower  per side, (men/women) so timing is of the essence here, lol.  There are no pop machines on the property however the best part is, its less than two city blocks to the Host Hotel,

Clifty Falls State Park

Much larger if not huge campsites in comparison, various pop machines around the park, absolutely beautiful view all around!  Several shower houses and flush toilets as well as a few outhouses,  they are scattered throughout the campground (check map),   the reservation window for campsites is 6 months out according to the State Parks website so if your interested in  this option I would start Jan 22 or so as the sites do fill up very quickly especially at this park. Electricity on site, water within walking distance, RV's, Tents, AV tents, Motorhomes, Cardboard boxes. The park is about twenty minutes or so from the Host Hotel using the north entrance, depending on how you drive.  If anyone wants to stay here I would strongly suggest they use the North entrance as its a little less stressful on the tranny if you know what I mean, after you unhook and get set up then go for a drive out the South entrance and then you can say thanks! Clifty Falls Inn and Lodge is here also and they have a dining room as well. Swimming pool, snack bar and plenty of hiking with the animals, deer, possum, skunk, squirrels, groundhogs, etc etc  at this time the cost is 29 bucks a night plus gate fee, instate is 5 bucks out of state is 7bucks! (you pay this once for the duration of your stay) dump station on your way out of the campground, right there where it stinks!

Hope this helps, any other questions please feel free to ask, I'll give you an answer, it may not be right but it will sound good!

Just a couple quick questions...

(1) Its not advertised but NO tent camping,  and yes pop up campers qualify as an RV.
Is an Avalanche tent considered a pop up??

(2) Alcohol allowed as long as you don't get stupid and obnoxious
What if I'm stoopid and obnoxious without alcohol??

#1
I mean the brochure says no tent camping, however if you have an RV on the site you can put up a tent down the holler or in the side grass if you can find room for kids etc!  Actually I forgot to ask about AV tent!  Call em real quick, lol, they are open thru this Sunday and then closed for the winter.

#2
Then that individual should stay home where its more comfortable!

I spoke to Burlin today, and explained the concept of the AV tent, he said sure!   SOOOO   AV tents are welcome at the Madison City Campgrounds

Also there is a public boat ramp next to the campground if you would prefer to boat it, however there is no shorepower, and I can not vouch for the ramp as we did not walk down there, however they said its been used this year frequently because of the bridge construction.  There was  a pontoon boat taken out of the water while we were camping.

Thanks for checking into this Didit.

Bump. I started a thread for a list of those who have reserved rooms. See reply #2.

While at the Holiday Dinner last weekend I spoke with a member who said that a few couples were talking over renting a cabin in Madison for the Nationals. I emailed Kathie at the host hotel and found that they have cottages that they rent out. Kathie was out of town for the holidays but I received this reply:

Kathie is out of the office, but it does look like we still have some of the Captain's cottages available.  I'm sure she is extending special prices to you all so I won't even try to quote without getting the info from her, but I have attached some pictures for you.  Let me know if you need more info.

Terry

You can call the Riverboat Inn and ask for details and rates. Make sure to tell them you are with the Avalanche Club and ask for their discount!

I would suggest that you get your reservations in soon if you are attending the 2014 Chevy Avalanche Fan Club Nationals in Madison, Indiana.

The attending list is growing and if we can fill the rooms allotted to us MAYBE I can talk them into saving us another block of rooms. If you wait to long the rooms may be gone as they sell out in the summer months.......I know that it seems like a long way off but trust me you don't want to wait until the last days to find that the rooms are sold out!

Please let me know when you have your reservation so that I will know when to ask for more rooms.

I got my room reservation for the Paddlewheel.
Arriving Wednesday (one day early cuz I can't wait) and departing Sunday.

We booked our room at the Paddle Wheel.

Booked our room at the Paddle Wheel - we're next door to you, Butch and Jo! :D

We're there Thurs-Sunday...we may add a Wednesday night if needed...

They were VERY nice on the phone!!  Can't wait!

Got our room reserved in the Paddlewheel building, Wed-Sun.  :B:

I just spoke with Kathie at the Riverboat Inn and there are only 7 rooms left in the Paddle Wheel Building! If you are thinking of attending this is the best value for lodging.
