2016 Nationals Charity Beneficiary

I am pleased to announce that this year's charity beneficiary will be Levine Children's Hospital, located on the campus of Carolinas Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Carolinas HealthCare System.

• Is the most comprehensive children's hospital between Atlanta and Washington, DC, helping children receive high-quality care close to home and family, no matter what their medical needs
• Features the region's first 24/7 Children's Emergency Department, staffed by physicians trained in pediatric emergency medicine
• Offers the region's only pediatric cardiovascular surgery and interventional cardiology program - and the only dedicated pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
• Features the region's only ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) heart-lung bypass capabilities for newborns and pediatric patients with 24/7 coverage in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit by physicians board-certified in pediatric critical care
• Provides the highest level of neonatal care in the region, including cardiac and fetal surgery, with expertise in congenital conditions
• Offers the region's only solid organ pediatric transplant program (heart, kidney and liver) and the only pediatric blood and marrow transplant program the region
• Is the only hospital in the region offering pediatric hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis and is the second-largest pediatric dialysis unit in the nation

All of the funds raised between the charity raffle and other donations will be donated to Levine Children's Hospital. We will also be accepting donations of toys and other needed items.  A wish list from LCH is posted below.

I'm picturing several Av's loaded with toys pulling up to the hospital to drop them off to waiting volunteers. 

I am confident that we as members of CAFCNA can do many things to help them out. If your region would like to collect donations at other get togethers leading up to the national get together please feel free.

1. Due to our infection control policy, all toys must be new and easy to sanitize.
2. The patient population includes many infants and toddlers. Please avoid toys that have small choke-able pieces,
sharp pieces, or fall apart easily.

I was working with our local bank to collect some items, but unfortunately they were devastated by flooding, as was the rest of my community..

So as of now, other than the raffle donations, I am coming loose handed.. I will see what I can gather in the next few weeks, but I don't think it will be much.
