Notice 2024 EV Silverado has a mid-gate; is it the Next Avalanche?

I can't tell you how excited I am about this truck! The Avalanche is back! Call it whatever you want. When I get mine, I will be pulling that STUPID Silverado name right off of it. We all know what it is. GM knows what it is. They were just too chicken to bring the name back because of the supposed lack luster sales numbers of the AVs in the 2010s. I have kept my 2013 pristine because it was the last one. I will continue to do so, but knowing that I can get another one now....some day, I feel a whole lot better. Mine is reserved. Long live the ChEVy Avalanche!

P.S. Since GM is pushing the idea of the mid-gate so hard this time, be prepared for the value of your AVs to go up!

I bet Snugtop is excited.

"we just got rid of this darn product!"

At least they're not going to have to worry about the panel inserts this time around.
This falls into the category of the technoweenie stuff I don't want. I don't want the manufacturer updating things over the air and the ability to remove features on a whim.
I totally agree, I see people complain that some EV's arent coming with over the air updates. As if it's THAT big of a deal to visit a dealer once a year if you're really worried about it. I mean, you're supposed to be rotating your tires. Then again, a lot of owners believe their cars are going to require zero maintenence.

All of these vehicles have USB ports on them and some manufacturers are using them to apply downloadable updates. Best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned.

Just like how the videogame industry has become a cesspool of half arsed attempted games because they can always 'patch it after launch' that's not the attitude i want an OEM to have with a vehicle i'm driving.

Looks like an "avalanche-esque" truck may be coming back as the Silverado EV, but how many $$$$

So far I can't make myself desire an EV, need to be able tow my loaded car hauler about 500 miles each way.

Has been discussed in other older threads, base price for a stripped model about $40,000 and full dress goes for about $105,000. Base model out spring 2023 and full dress late 2023.
More info and photos and videos in the other threads.

Battery layout probably dictated the solid body. Then an engineer said, hey why not put the Avalanche style mid-gate in there for more functionality since we already know how to do that and no one else has one and the bean pushers will like it so we can charge more (even though we were going to charge more anyhow).

You what really irks me this century, how auto manufacturers and the Govm't just simply ignore and blow by the fact that these new car and truck prices are so sky high, are more than most homes used to cost and are totally out of reach for most people (or should be, some buy anyhow knowing they are spending their entire fortune or future on a vehicle to get you from point A to point B). The Feds say, what's the problem, just go out and get an EV. Yeah, just go out and spend $70-$120K just like that. I have that money just laying around, not a problem. Yeah, that's great, I'll save $3500 on gas a year at the most, probably a lot less. And, I get to spend $2500 at the new charging stations, so cool, yeah, can't wait, I'll save $1000 but I have to spend $70K. This is awesome, the world is upside down.

Thing is, new ICE trucks are also going for $70k and up. It's not just the EVs. The entire auto industry is charging ridiculous coin for new vehicles. And a whole lot of that is the Tecno junk catered to people who want the car to drive them vs. the drivers who want to control the car.

I live a mile and a half from a Ford dealership. They got one of the new Bronco's in back in the early fall. I stopped in to look at it - it was an "Outer Banks" edition, was lifted, big tires, convertible soft top - all kinds of bells and whistles. Sticker was $69,995. I was like wow, that's nice - but $70k? No way.

That same exact truck is back on the lot with 572 miles on it for $75.6k...

I took my sister to the local auto expo a couple years ago when she needed to replace her rusted out Avy. The one she really liked was a GMC with an almost $80k sticker. :beating: Being a divorced, retired nurse this was of course more than double her budget.

Will we see an Avalanche Return in the near future with the Electric Silverado returning with the Avy's classic mid gate functionality. Just food for thought would love to see a T1 Avalanche with the 3.0L Duramax.

Yass! 100%

My spouse sent me the link to the new Silverado EV, and I spied almost immediately that it has the Avalanche midgate, but better . They call it the Flex MidGate and it can to a 60/40 now. It will also come with the Flex TailGate. I had been drooling over a Rivian, but this just may do the job. I need to add something to the family since we just got our hands on a barn find 1969 Cutlass S with 35k miles on it.

This is fantastic. Just last weekend I was thinking that I'd pull the trigger on an Av if it comes out again, but all electric makes it hard to justify. How much time does it take to fill up? Not road trip friendly.

We drove to Florida recently with Friends, us in our diesel Equinox, them in a Tesla. We stopped about every 2.5 hours to charge for 30 minutes, which turned out to be fine because myself and the other wife have 2.5 hour bladders.

May want to read this thread.....

That's the chip shortage. My tax bill went up a good chunk on my, what?, 9 year old truck?

Eh, I think it's super ugly in my humble opinion lol.

Also, I already hate emissions, this whole truck is emissions...
Glad I am not the only one that thinks atleast the front is ugly as heck.

That and how are you supposed to take it cross country? Toss a generator in the back and run that to charge it as you drive?

I "was" on the reservation list for a 4 door Bronco. I anxiously waited for my manual transmission Big Bend to be built, the dealer never replied to any questions. Ford (corporate) became more 'woke" everyday and a $45K+ price tag for the one I thought would fit me all pushed me away from Ford's table..

I know it is an EV which sucks (in my opinion), but is anyone else here just excited that they are finally bringing the Avalanche back? It appears to have almost every feature from the original, including the most important, the midgate. Who knows, I may warm to EVs and get one in the future when my 2012 gives up the ghost…

You can see videos and more photos and info in this thread....

fresh from the auto show in Chicago - sticker estimated to be $105,000 and eventually there will be future generations/less-optioned sliverado E models that com in under $45,000 - sorry for the sideways image - I'll correct and repost - definitely has a mid gate and is supposedly to be selling this next summer…the initial release units are all sold @ $105,000…it's a great looking truck but for 6 figures…make mine a Lotus.

Hear me out:
  1. Uni-body design - no separate cab vs bed.
  2. Bumper steps
    • Have also included the new Silverado Flex tailgate.
  3. It has outside locking storage compartments.
    • Instead of saddlebags, it now has a full trunk - in the front where the engine would be.
  4. IT HAS A MID-GATE! And it's a 60/40 SPLIT-MIDGATE!
I've been debating putting my reservation in now (it's only $100), but it doesn't come out until the 2024 model year and even then, only the base unit.
