$23999 For A '03?  Have To Return It Tomorrow.

GUEST
Hello

On Friday, a Cleveland, OH area dealer loaned me a new '03 until tomorrow (Monday) pm to evaluate and determine if I want to buy it. It is a base 1500 with $32139 sticker price (including delivery) that they advertised for $24749 (including delivery and already deducting the $3k in GM incentives). Apparently price would have been reduced by another $750 if I was presently leasing a GM car or truck.

First, is price OK? Should I try to get a better deal. Maybe ask them to add a couple of free items onto truck such as towing receiver and rear mats? Any comments or suggestions?

Second and maybe the most important: Will I be able to tow a 3800lb car plus trailer without significant modifications. Planning to tow my other car from Cleveland, OH to Kansas City and back in July. Total weight should be a little over 5000 lbs. Manual makes reference to requiring towing suspension if over 5000 lbs.

Anyway, have to return the AV tomorrow or complete paperwork to buy.

Thanks

Frank Plutt

You should have 1 question in mind tomorrow when you go in. What the heck is wrong with the truck? Why have they reduced below trade-in value? Sounds too good to be true to me. Does it have especially high mileage? Is it dinged somewhere? Does it have the right engine in it? Wow. I don't think you'll have problems with the tow though. Take it before the Sales Manager wakes up and sees his associate screwing up. Don't get too attached to the Sales Associate or Dealer if this is true. Enough of my 2 cents. The Bubba has spoken.

Bubba:

Thanks for your reply. It was a brand new black 2003 AV when I picked it up Friday. Had 6 miles on it. Now has about 120.

Might try to make a deal (in addition to the $7390 off sticker I have $2100 in GM Card points to redeem).

My real worry is the towing capacity.

Any other comments? Still think I should try for some free extras.

We have a complete section on towing and hauling.

Check it out.

One comment. Dont worry about towing. What you have said you will be towing is within easy ability for the AV.

Buy it before it gets away or they change there mind.

WOW I think thats a great price for a '03 1500 and as for towing you should have no problems. Its sounds to me like you have a salesman who knows what you need and a dealer who wants to make a good deal and take care of a customer so that next time you need a car or truck you'll come back.

I tried my hand at selling new chevys last year and the cheapest one i saw at the dealer i worked at was $27,000 for a white base model and it didnt last long.

Personally i think your getting a good deal on a great truck! Heck i have been thinking of saving up for a year or so and buying a used '02 AV for about $20k to $22k and you'd be getting a '03 for 2k more... i think if i were you, look at the interest rate and terms and if alls good i'd jump on that truck with all 4's! hehehe

Good Luck! (y)

That's a very good deal. The best advertised price in the Columbus area right now is an '03 Z66 with MSRP of $33,849.00 for $26,499.00 after rebate.

There should be more info in the towing forum, but you don't need any modifications to the truck to tow over 5,000 pounds. What you do need is a "weight distributing hitch" which plugs in to the hitch receiver on the truck. It is like the regular weight carrying hitch ball mount, but it has provisions for spring bars which help transfer the weight to the front of the truck.

So, you can handle the weight with no changes to the truck, but you want to make sure you get the correct type hitch to connect to the truck's hitch receiver.

Buy it. at that price you could probably drive it a year or 2 and then sell it for the same money when you're done.

Ok I dont want to sound like a broken record but if you like it buy it - I dont think you will find a better deal! ;)

Dude.....your nuts if you don't take it. My AV was a steal and I paid more than that!

Hi,
I am living in CLEVELAND and saw the price this person paid-is being offered.
It was from Bob Serpentini Auto Group-
I thought the price was a hokes.
I gather not....
I do question however the BASE Av-
I think that your not gonna be happyu w/o at least a Z-66 or better a Z71?
Resale is gonna be a B&^!h
with a plain jane Av-
My .02 cents worth but hey-
go for a av at that price-\Do not be mad in 12 months when you have spent another 4 grand in stuff to get like a 66 or 71?
Again-
a base av is an Avalanche at heart but go all the wway-
Your gonna hate the 16Inch tires?

Personal opinion-
I do not even know why they make anything but a 66 or 71-
it seems a crime to hold back on this truck-

Plain jane? You don't want those of us with Base models to like you very much do you?

I love my BASE model AV, I didn't want heated seats because I was not happy with how they were in my mom's Tahoe, I don't need memory seating because I'm the only one that drives it......didn't care if I had a sunroof or not.....the main thing I wanted was electric locks/windows (My cavalier didn't have even that) and a cloth bench seat.

Soooooo, maybe you should restate that post, there are lots of members with base AVs that are very happy.

Sheesh...I know opinions are like bellybuttons....but come on....

Sorry, I'd have to agree with Sands on his comments. With the Z-66, you have the towing package. I didn't think that I needed that either, but my dealer (who is a friend) talked me into it. One load of flooring tile in the back a month after I bought it and saw the load level work did it for me. As my friend explained to me, where I live (South Louisiana), most people are interested in these vehicles for either towing something or hauling something. Therefore, the towing packing is a big reselling tool later on down the road. I haul light stuff from time to time (Christmas tree, kids bike, etc) with the occasional load of firewood or house project stuff, and I don't own anything that needs to be towed. I don't disagree that the engine will be able to tow the aforementioned weight without a problem, but the added Z-66 towing options will make for a better purchase (and later re-sale) in the long run.

As far as the heated seats, sun-roof, etc.....to each his own. But park an AV with the 17 inch wheels next to an AV with 16 inch wheels........no comparison. Don't settle for being just a prince; be the King of the Road! With the deal they are offering for the base, I'd like to see what he would be willing to deal on a Z-66. If you can't afford an extra $1500-2000 thousand more, I understand. But whatever you choose, you will enjoy this vehicle.

No disrespect to the Base AV owners. I love ALL AV's! But the question asked towing capabilities, which I hope that I have addressed.

Good luck, and hope to see you back as an AV owner, base model or Z-66.

JohnS -

No direspect taken from your post, you came across in a much better way (y)

Personally, I don't tow anything either, and I couldn't afford the extra $$....some of us get just what we can afford because we want to be AV owners! ;D

It's all good! ;)

>:DAnother poor boy with a base model from down south. I paid the 23,900 and had them take my denali 17" wheels off of my Yukon and trade them out. That was the only thing i did not want, I had the firestone wilderness LE's on the yukon at first, noisy and hard ride. The michelin 17" cross terrains made all the difference in the world. AV will be paid off in about 6 months and i now have 37,000 miles on it since the end of Febuary.
Planning on running it to just under a 100,000 before my extended warranty runs out, but this time will be shooting for the Z66 with the power folding mirrors so i can get in my garage with out haveing to pull a mirror in......
To each his own, but i was not even thinking about an AV till the guy i knew at the dealer told me about it, heck it was the same price as the extended cab i was looking at..................
just call me poor, but loving it >:D

Wht pay extra for something you don't want or need. I have the locking diff. in my Sierra (comes with Z66) and I don't like it, and don't want it again. The only "extra" I want is BOTH front seats power. And not many of 'em have that on any of the models. Matter of fact I was pretty close to trying to make a deal on a used Base LPM here but then discovered only the Drivers side it power.
If I was closer, I'd go try to Deal on a '03 at this place. :D

Who's the dealer, and how do I get in on that action? Buy the AV! Sounds like a great deal.

If you read carefully, it was my opinion.
No harm meant here but a plain av- well- at least go for a Z-66? I do not have all the bells and whistles either- Money??? was an issue. I did however strike a deal on a -66. It is a fact that resale of the 71 or 66 is gonna be higher.
I got into this issue before with a camaro I owned wayback- I got a stripped down model, traded and lost my arse-
Nothing personal to anyone with a plain standard av- more power to us all. but again did not mean to flame or downgrade anyone here-
Personal opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder- please take no disrespect out of my posts- no harm intended and I was not trying to belittle a plain av-
But when parked side by side-
the 71/66 sits prettier that a plain av-
So I do not harm feelings here I will strike the plain and lets just agree to call them BASE modles?
Fair?

Okay- Please accept my appoligy and we move on-

Later all! :)
