Hey, id just thought id give you guys some insight on my newist purchase. 2 flowmaster 40 series 3" in/out exhausts' with 2 pipes coming out the side. Extemely loud but pleasent rumble >:D My muffler guy said pipes couldnt safley be ran to the drivers side like i wanted due to not enought clearence, especially when i go offroading ;D. They were able to fit the 2 mufflers side by side where the stock on was. So all you 8.1 guys that want your av to sound nice, this was definatly the right choice.

I have the flowmaster 40 series on my 8.1 1 muffler. Sounds great. You don't really need dual mufflers.

hey, the reason i did 2 muffles is because the 2500 has dual 3" pipes coming from the front ;D. I figured make it seem as mean as possible >:D Mine sound almost like 02_2500avalanche, but mine are a tad deeper( its hard to tell though because its an mpg. Im happy with it.

Hey Nunzio, I tried to private mail you but it didn't go through...

Thanks for posting the mpgs of your 2500 with Flowmaster 40s. It sounds great. I was in another 2500 this past weekend and he has the Flowmaster 40 with dual exhaust coming out the passenger side behind the rear tire and I like it.

I realize that was live and yours is an .mpg but yours sounds a lot like how I'd like my 2500 to sound. Plus I'd like to have the pipes come out the back (any issues with running the pipes out the back?).

Would you please give me any details on your exhaust system that you have? I need to know as much as possible so I can tell if I've found a knowledgeable muffler shop. What exactly does your system have and how much did you pay?

Thanks for all your help.

Best regards,

-Dan

Well the guy who did mine makes custom headers for drag cars. He has a mandrel bending machine in his shop. There was no problem with putting the pipes over the axel and out the back. The mufflers are 2 40series originals not the delta flows (it is extremely loud, real deep, and it loud inside). so keep that in mind if resonance doesn't bother you), there is 1 muffler for each pipe, the pipes are 3 inch mandral bent going out to 2 4 inch stainless steel tips. You need to consider the clearence if you do alot of offroading because when you are approaching or climbing a hill the tips will be the closest to the ground, thats why I recomend you put the tips out the side but it should not be a problem because you have a lift. I paid $675 and I am not looking back, money well spent, puts a smile on my face every day. hope this helps.

After hearing 02_2500's Ava, I am feeling very inadequate with my little 5.3 :(

Maybe this is a reason to trade my '02 for an '03 with the 8.1. After all, there is no substitute for cubic inches!!!

Hey Gary (Aegis),

How does his Series 40 installation compare to yours? I'm confused since, on the surface, it looks like you both have the same hardware but it sounds like he's running something different (he says he has resonance inside the truck). Can you shed any light on this?

Thanks

there is lots of resonance inside from 1500 to 3000. I will try to take an inside vid of while im driving I just need someone to host the video for me. Aegis has a 40 series 2 in one out i believe so he only has one muffler were as I have 2 so double the resonance.

Dan,

He has (2) mufflers where I have (1). I looked at putting dual FLowmaster 40'S but decided to go with one. I have a feeling his might be louder than what you are looking for. Both of my exhaust pipes are the same length and dump on the passenger rear tire. I suppose you could run dual pipes out the rear if thats what you want. I also think the flow would be better with dual mufflers and this could lower the engine operating temperature. I don't know if this would cause a problem with the computer.

Alex,

Good to hear that the duals work good for you. Dan rode in my AV last week and he was concerned about the resonance and drone noise factor. Running 1 40 is not loud at all. I do believe that you are gaining a bit more performance from the duals. When I got mine installed I was told that the duals could lower the engine temp and affect the performance. I am looking at headers next and then will reconsider going to duals like you have done.
