2W/4WD INDICATOR LIGHTS

We have owned our 2003 avalance since August with no problems so far, until now! The indicator lights that show whether you are in 2WD or 4WD are suddenly showing that the transfer case is in neutral. I am still able to drive the vehicle though! And if I try to go into 4WD, it still registers neutral! If you turn the car off and wait several minutes, upon start up it usually works again! Has anyone experienced this and is this a taste of problems in the future. I am taking it into the shop Friday, but the service guy told me he had never heard of this before and I am sure that they will not be able to reproduce this and it will be a waste of my time!!! Thanks ???

This has happened to my wife today, she was driving down the road and noticed the indicater light for the 4WD was showing neutral. It has been selected in 2H for a few months now, she drove it home and is calling the dealer tomorrow (Stopping and turning off the truck did not work to reset it). Likely make an appointment for it within a week or two.

She told me she had a Service 4WD message on the DIC last week, I had told her about this issue (from reading about it here, and warned her about it), she was able to get rid of it by turning the truck off and restarting it.

6,600 miles on a 2004 Z-71.

I posted an update to my year-long-saga with the Service 4WD (maybe different than this neutral thing ???) in the "auto 4WD questions" thread.

Latest TSB that I know of is from March '04.
