I am having problems deciding between the 33's and the 35's.. i am looking to install the RockKrawler 6" lift and wanted to hear any seggestions any one may have in regards to either tire.

Both would fit, but I would gauge it on the type of gearing you have; 4.10 or 3.73. The 4.10 gears can handle the 35s, but the 3.73s are not made for that big of a tire, you will screw up the steering, have to replace the ball bearings, and other equipment may fail not to mention, a lot worse MPG.

Do you mean if he has teh 3.73's he'd screw up the steering etc with 35's???

Phaty...

From my opinion...don't settle for the 33's if you really want the 35's and are debating...Almost EVERYONE who had gotten 33's that i know of (iincluding me) eventually said..."Damn, i should have gotten the 35's) You'll probably want some more lift later down the road too...LOL.

If you don't plan on towing anything really of some magnitude...4.10's will suffice. But if you plan on getting the 35's and do some towing/hauling, you may even reconsider swapping out the gears aswell.

Like James said...your mpg will suffer with any of it...But even worse if you keep 4.10's and tow/haul a lot. You'll be better off with 4.56's. Depending on how much or near stock you want the power/torque to be.

Mud, From what I've heard, running 35s or bigger with 3.73 gears, you can wear out ball bearings quicker, screw up steering, brakes wear out and aren't as effective, etc. I am only about 75% sure about this.

Mudz right....the 33's will look too small after a while. I want 35's now also. And would love to just trade my lift in for the new Whiplash 14", but wife says no :6:. Good luck with your decision..will love to see and hear all about the RockKrawler lift too.

??? Ball bearings???? Steering?? I don't get it, I guess.....

I guess it is a possibility, my steering pump went already...BUT it just so happened i was doing donuts in a dirt pit at the STI Hummer course. LOL...

But I've never heard of it. Not because of gears. Now, the tire size itself may affect the other parts as mentioned, but that would be no matter which gears you running.

As far as brakes, the AV is rated for so much weight ( i forget the figure) for towing right? And if the brakes can handle that towing capacity, I'd assume they can handle the extra weight of tires. But no doubt, the brakes on AV's suck. Upgrade would be nice...

Beast...I hear Whiplash sucks for crap. If you do a high lift, Full Throttle, CST are much better suited.

I'd love to do something bigger. had a chance to buy DavidPerry's 12inch FT kit plus complete front end (he has a 2500), but if i did...I'd have to swap out so much other stuff and then put on some HUGE tires to go with it...it wouldn't be a dailly driver. I put 36k in 1 year...i drive too much to be spinning 39+ tires...lol.

Settling for a 3 inch b/l and some 36 possibly 37's with 4.56 gears. can't wait to get it all done.

Mud, You probably would have to put a supercharger on your truck if you had a 12" with 39s or 40s; almost everyone that I have talked to that has a 10"-12" lift with 40s has some kind of supercharger or a bigger engine to help move those big ass tires.

LOL..exactly...if i had a second vehicle to use as a dailly driver...it would all be worth it. But I got that kinda change...lol

What is the difference between a 33 & 34, 34 & 35?
I am thinking about going with either a 34/12.50R16 on a 16x8, or a 33/12.50R16 on a 16x10. Just looking for some opinions.

An inch >:D..

I am unsure if I am going to have the clearance for the 35's as I do not have the lift yet. As for the rims I am going to do a 16x8.. reason for the 16x8 is I plan on driving in sand so I will need to air my tires down to get a better foot print.. The skinner rim is less likely is lose its bead when I air down.

But if you have a wider rim, you have a wider tire, so would you have to air-down as much. ???
I have never really driven on sand so I don't know that much about that.

I was just told by installer that for a Fabtech Kit, the 315x75 are recommended. I think that would be about a 34 1/2 if I am calculating correctly. He said they would not rub :cautious:

Oviedo are you for real getting a lift? Was wondering how long you'd last. Bubba :p

;D

BTW I think you can nearly squeeze 33's w/out a lift, so if it were me I'd get the 35's.

Unfortunatly it ain't me, b/c I don't think a lift is in my future :6:

I am not absolutley sure about this but your footprint should be the same on either rim. for instance when a tire tread dimension is given it is given for that tire not what it will be depending on rim width.

So airing down the tire will cause the side walls to flex and begin to take some of that load on the side bead.

Hope this helps
Dan

Now would a 315/75 be on a 10" or 8" rim?

Also, Mud what kind of rims are you running, I was thinking about just getting simple, cheap Black rockCrawler wheels, but I don't know how they'll look on my Blk AV :cautious:. I also looked at a pair of American Racing that were blk with a silver or aluminum trim ;D looks pretty nice, little more expensive. Just wanted an opinion.
Thanks.

I'm running 16x9 inch rims. Axis Regulators.

315 x 75 on an 8inch rim will be tight, and most likely require a slight amount of trim.

Mine are 33's and they rubbed a little. Had to trim about 1/4 of an inch or less.

As far as the Rockcrawlers, those are sweet! Did they add a 16 inch rim? When i was looking, they onlly had upto a 15 inch for the black ones with simulated beadlocks. That the ones you talking about?

Now would a 315/75 be on a 10" or 8" rim?

Once again as far as I know it should be the same. I believe that it is measured as such 75 is the percentage of the tire height that the tire is wide. it is a tire measurement and not a rim measurement.

I am not sure and should refer to the professionals to answer these questions. If i can i will call someone and try to reply back.

Be careful with the black rockcrawler rims. I put those on a couple years ago and had to take them off 6 months later because of vibration. Two spacers were needed to keep the wheel off the brake parts. The spacers are one size fits all, so there is slop when they are slipped on over the bolts. Long story short....they get out of balance causing vibration - bad tire wear.

Tuna,

Those were 15 inch? If they make the 16 now, he should be ok. Do you have any pics with those on the AV?
