$3400 for reman trans sound about right?

I am 63.

I still do whatever I am comfortable doing, but under the vehicle bench presses is not one of those things.

Always take your old guy gimmies, for sure.

We've earned them.

I have always had a new torque convertor installed with each rebuild.

They are not that expensive.

I'm sure a refurbished one would be fine, but the original untouched one would not.

I'm sure your rig will be back on the road soon enough and be better than ever.

You may also want to spring for a new rear main seal while the transmission is out.

It would be a lot cheaper to do it now.

yup..on age thing...and the rear main as well, he already suggested that and he'll just charge me for the part. Good shop, good owner.

I hope to have this AV another 5 years or so. I'd love to grab an Escalade EXT thats my dream car.

UPDATE: I got my AV back and the trans overhaul was a very sound investment. Just wow, the thing shifts normal now, upshifts and downshifts smooth and perfect. I got all the sweet upgrades and a 3 year, 50k warranty that covers parts and labor. A big plug to Transmission Clinic in Colorado Springs. Total cost was 3500 clams, that included a new rear main seal, new trans cooler lines, new front and rear universal joints and oil change. Here's all the parts and upgrades listed. I've noticed the entire ride is quiter, cruising spped RPM's lower and increased gas mileage. This trans runs effortlessly. Impressed bigtime.
