We picked up our 'new' 04 on Wednesday and drove to the cottage and it was a lovely ride. Yesterday in blowing snow we hit a pothole or some other rough surface and the hubbly lost control of the vehicle and needed to make a quick decision on where to go as a van was coming at us in the other lane, he drove us into the ditch and all I saw were trees coming at us. Never been so scared in my life. I firmly believe if it wasn't for the height, weight and general stability of this vehicle I suspect it would have been worse.  My Santa Fe wouldn't have taken that ditch the way this truck did, of that I am absolutely certain. We made it out of the ditch thankful for 4 wheel drive and took a few moments to cry, hug and thank God that we were okay. I felt bad for the family in the van coming at us but am thankful the gentleman didn't overcompensate or slam on the brakes as it might have been ugly for them and for us. Quick thinking on his part. Our 11 year old son was shaken pretty bad and the cat went for a nice toss in his carrier...other than a few branches and mud and grass caked under the carriage, add in a few scratches on the beautiful blue paint, we're minus 3 molded mud flaps that can be replaced in a jiffy and we're okay. We're really okay. What a day...one that I would just as soon forget. Thank goodness for the bulk of this vehicle...I honestly believe walked away because of it.

Glad that you came out OK, there are many good ending stories about the Avalanche around here!

Glad you are all okay.  Good thing it was not worse.  AVs are very strong vehicles and can take a real good beating.  Power to the AV! :B:

glad you made it out with minimal damage and everyone was ok, be careful out there

The Av is big, tough and has mass, it may drink some gasoline, but when it comes to an accident, you have a lot of protection around you, thank God that you all are A Ok.  You were very lucky, like you said, if you had been in something smaller like your Santa Fe, the outcome probably would have been less positive.  It's worth the cost to drive the Av, you can't put a price on your life and personal safety, the Avalanche comes through again with flying colors! :B:

Glad you all are ok..  The AV has saved many a lives here on the site..

Glad your story had a happy ending and everyone is ok.. Welcome to the site Manitoban!

wow... it's great to hear that you're all OK...

hopefully things will buff out without a problem...
glad to hear thqt there's no major damage

You had my heart rate up just reading your story!! I'm glad that your AV kept you all safe, I know the main reason for mine, I feel my babies are up and more secure than prior vehicles owned, it would be hard to go into anything else! So happy to hear that the only thing wrong was things that could be fixed!! Drive safe out there!!  And... :welcome: Manitoban

Glad Everything's ok, only minor damage considering no injuries, the av comes thru again !!!

That is why I drive an Avalanche. It is the only thing I drive. I am glad to hear that you came out of it OK.

You people are the bestest! Thank you ever so much for you kudos that we're okay. I sent a letter to GM Canada telling them about our experience and thanked them for building such a safe ride. Hubbly bought aftermarket splash guards, but they are pretty darn ugly, so we're going to take them back and get the right stuff. Need a few more posts before I can do the 'wanted section' though! All is good. Oh yeah, all is good! I sent out a post with a pic of our new 'baby' to all our friends far and wide and they sent emails back telling us their own highway stories and thoughts on this AV of ours...apparently we've drummed up some serious interest! A friend of ours is now considering selling his '05 Sierra and was going to make a trip to a dealer today to view the Avalanche for the first time...very coolio, indeed.
