OK my 66 has 3.73 and I pull a 6300# trailer. I want 4.10s and have searched all the threads and I want to know what I need to do after the swap? Can the dealer reprogram the speedo for the swap? will the computer have to be reprogramed so the ABS and the Tranny know where to shift? I got quated 550.00 for the gears causeit is a 2wd...you would think all z66's would have 410s but I couldnt find not a one! I talked to the dealer and he said it would void the warranty and then i asked if he would do it and he said no! I cant believe that ! GM offers this as an option @ no cost , yet no dealer will touch it! If the will do a ring and pinion on a warranty job why wont the give a customer what he needs if no truack was available. Its not like I am asking them to lift it and change the engineering of the truck! I just want the optional gears!

Do I also have to worry about the locker and traction control after the swap?

The 2 shops say it wont be a problem to install but im just worried about the details...computer,tranny, ABS....etc PLEASE ADVISE>>>>>>>>

Find a different dealer. ?After you find a different dealer, who will swap out the ring & pinion, they will reprogram the ECM for speedo and that's all that needs to be done. ?The ABS and tranny will fall in line.

I agree with Edward, talk to a different dealer. On my old Sierra the dealer swapped out the ring & Pinion for me for about $100.00 more than a speed shop was going to charge, plus they reprogrammed for free. (Speedshop wanted $75.00) Break-even in my mind.

ok, I talked to Chevy and they said NO Problem! As long as a dealer does it and uses GM parts we will be good! I called a few dealers and one I KNOW is good since they do lifts and gears all the time! Then I called some other speed shops and off road places. The local shops wanted 900.00 with out flashing the PCM. But this would void my rear end warranty. Chevy quoted 1300.00 and will do the computer thing and warranty still good for 6-100000mi! So Im going to bite the bullet and do it.! I have never heard any one complain about the 4.10 and a bunch about how the 3.73 stink. I tow a 6k 27footer and the extra power and braking and safety margin is worth it to me. I still will have to watch the loaded weight of my truck though. Me, wife, dog...and gas....rest of stuff...IN TRAILER.....I like the 7300 to 8300 bump in towing and safety and a happier enginge and tranny.......

Still makes me mad when i was buying that i couldnt find one with 4.10....its a 50.00 option now i have to shell out 1300.00 argghhhhhhh

Easy there Wildland, I have the 3.73:1. Only difference is I have the 8.1 in front of it. I tow a 6,000 lb trailer like it isn't back there.

With the small block you are smart to change in my opinion. You should really like the change, especially when you pull that load back there. :)

Warranty? I don't need no stinkin' warranty... ;D

Besides, mine is almost up (at least it will be in the next few months - about 10,000 miles left). I just ordered the parts and had a local mechanic install them for me. I used my Predator to reprogram the PCM for the change.

Now the fun really begins. >:D

Another thing to think about...... the stock rear end is limited slip in the Z66. Are you replacig it with the same?
