I've been getting an intermittent" service 4wd system" warning lately. Seems to only happen when its rainy or damp for a day or two. Has anyone seen this before? Any tips to try before bringing it to a dealer, my local mechanic doesn't want to get into it.

What model year is the truck? What are the errors codes when scanned with a tool?

After a decade of ignoring service four wheel drive and the selector switch going nuts showing light in wrong place I have decided to fix it. My idiot light has been on for over a decade and had to clear it to register it. Once in a while gas would have a vacuum or pressure when opened the gas cap. I pulled the codes and found out that either the purge valve was bad or the inlet valve was bad. I replaced the inet first thinking since i had vacuum on the tank sometimes that would be the problem. Replaced it first. Well no fix. Replaced the Purge Valve as it was not working at all using a battery on it. Well again no fix. Check for 12 volts on purge and it works, so now to check the inlet valve under tire again and no 12 volts. Traced wired back a few feet and found a packrat got hungry and chewed both wires not in one place buy two. Fixed he wire problem. FIXED THE PROBLEM. NO IDIOT LIGHT. NO SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. F------- GM PROGRAMED THE COMPUTER SO THAT IF YOU HAVE A CODE ON FOR A LONG ASS TIME THE SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WOULD SHOW AND THEN THE SELECTOR SWITCH WOULD GO NUTS OR SHOW IN WRONG PLACE. THAT HOW TO FIX SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ISSUES. FIX YOUR EMISSIONS OR WHAT EVER ELSE IS WRONG THAT HAS CODED. REPOST ANYWHERE TO LET OTHERS KNOW.

YOU ARE ALL WELCOME
