All-
I posted last month about my 4WD Transfer case being toasted. I got it back after a new transfer case and everything was fine. I used 4WD once since the 25th of April which is when I got it back.

This weekend I tried to use it again, and the front end would not turn. At least that is what my buddies said.

I went home, jacked the rear diff up with a floor jack, so that the rear tires were off of the ground and put it in drive. THe rear locker worked just as expected, so I applied the brake and put it in 4 Hi and let off of the brake, hoping that it would pull itself off of the jack. However, this was not the case.

All this produced was a burning smell similar to what I smelled last time that my transfer case went out..

I applied the brakes again, and put the transmission in neutral. I pressed 4-Lo and once engaged, returned the transmission to drive.

This time it drove off of the floor jack.

I am afraid that the 4-Hi clutches are toasted in this transfer case.

Does anyone have any ideas suggestions? The truck went into the dealership today with 6000 miles. It had 2950 when the frist transfer case went

Did they replace your transfer case or just tell you they did? It almost sounds like they rebuilt your old one but they missed the cause of the original failure.

Good luck on this try.

Most of the time under warranty repairs are made - seldom except in extreme cases are units replaced, It is possible that they replaced the whole unit but I would suspect a repair of some sort was more likely the case. However dont be discouraged they are working with you and will more than likely get it resolved. ;)

Just got back from the dealership...The first transfer case was a total replacement. This dealership does not rebuild, they replace. I saw the new one myself, and the old one was still on a table in pieces when i drove out.

They said it is the transfer case again. They said that GM will probably not warranty my transfer case this time. That I will have to pay for it.

I think this is total BS, and cannot believe that this could happen. I am thinking about trading to a new AV..North Face Edition.

Let me know what you guys think

Well sorry to hear you are having such problems. The dealer is blowing smoke - GM has to fix it or prove you did something in the way of neglect to ruin it - also the dealer who just did the work must have some sort of warranty on the repairs they do - you can sue both them and GM if they refuse to repair your AV - call the customer relations number in your owners manual and raise some sand - you will get it repaired or get a new AV - provided they cant make a case you negelected or damaged our AV in some way. Good luck to ya.

Hm, sounds fishy. I went through a front differential and a transfer case replacement. I am currently seeking my money back via the lemon law. Will post results when they occur. Good luck!

That is BS - they have to replace the transfer case unless they can prove you did something outside of their coverage to damage the transfer case - I would go to another dealer if this is possible or get GM customer support on the phone.

OH and I am one of the originals to have the transfer case fixed - GM wouldn't let them put in a new case so they had to rebuild my entire case - I have been through some very very tough off roading since with no problems until the front diff had to be redone. :)

My T Case went out after using it one time - sounds like you had a very similar problem - TWICE - :(

Im am one of thoes with the same problem! It's at the dealer now. I have 6,000 mls on it. Think we need to all do something here.

GM is pissing me off too...run around city.

Their customer service rep is a joke. Told me he'd call me on May 23.....I had to call him 3 times in a row and finally caught him at 7 am yesterday.

He told me to bring the truck in yet again.

I asked him how many times I should bring the truck in before I should get fed up with the entire process?? His response was "as many times as it takes." My Avalanche problems qualify under the MD lemon law on all 3 counts. (Longer than 30 days in the shop, over 4 times for the same problem, and a serious safety concern)

Told him I havent had my family in the truck for over a month and a half because I dont trust it. Im looking up attorneys that specialize in the Lemon Law....I HATE to do it but I dont think Ill get fair treatment otherwise. Will post results...
