So I've encountered something with the 4wd that I can't figure out. If I leave the switch on auto 4wd all night and go to start the truck the next morning it will flash and say service 4wd. But if I put it in 2wd and start it the next day nothing happens. I've noticed this only when it's cold outside.

Have you been using the auto 4wd on dry pavement or just when water/ice or snow is present?

I've been using it all year
You may have caused some damage to your front end by leaving it on all the time. Not sure what year you have but may want to read your owner's manual and if you don't have one read the PDF version in the resources section on this website.
I generally use 2wd all the time and only switch to auto 4wd if road conditions deteriorate.

Well I also noticed that it makes a weird road noise in 2wd. But if I put it in auto 4wd the sound goes away
