5.3 to 6.0 engine swap???

yeah i checked on a couple of other forums! this one seems to have the most helpful people and information

I have 04 1500 and plan.on swapping to an 05 6.0 out of an express in front of a 4l60e and I was wondering what ill need to do it?

Physically, the 6.0L will swap right in.  Depending on the differences in sensors, you might want the wiring harness and perhaps the PCM from the Express van as well, just to make things easier.  If the sensors/harness are already the same, no need to get the harness or PCM.  Your Av's PCM will learn the new engine on it's own, but you will greatly benefit from a tune to help it match up.  If you opt to not get a tune, it may take the computer a little while to learn the new engine...you will get some rough idles, codes and perhaps some sputtering while driving.  Eventually, you may want to beef up the trans, rear end and other things, depending on the power output of your 6.0L, your driving habits and intended use.  Some have been just fine without beefing up the drive line, while others have trouble even with keeping on the stock motor.  You never know what will happen.  You could chance it and wait to see what breaks, and replace as you go...or you could spend some money up front and prevent the possibility of things leaving you stranded on the interstate.

I did it reciently. all you gotta do is swap all your external parts (power steering, A/C, intake,Alt brackets Etc) and your good (also The 5.3L flywheel fits the 6.0). You have two types of 6.0's The LQ4 and the LQ9. The LQ4 is usually in the Silverado SS and the LQ9 is in the EXT. The LQ9 has a higher horsepower # up front outta the box and also the LQ9 has Coated pistons so you can push more outta her without fear of grenading her. Also if your goin to do it look into a GT2-3 cam and yellow LS6 valve springs and Comp cams pushrods (if you go into Lingerfelters website its all a kit) It's gonna run you about 500$ but in the long run it's worth it. If your serious about this endeavor. P.M me and I'll call you and walk you through it as best as I can. (that's how I did it)
ALSO:: Before you go into this undertaking I highly recomend reading these books first then decide if this is for you. (in the order as posted so you will know if this is for you before buying the next)  #7

How about the crank trigger?  Will the 5.3 trigger work on the 6.0?  Also, what about the balancer?  I'm looking at a 6.0 crate motor that may not have the balancer included, so I would either have to use the 5.3 balancer on it, or get one specifically for the 6.0.  Can I use mine?

I've got this 6.0 now in my truck:

The only changes required are:

Bigger fuel injectors (if flex fuel already may not be required)
Booster fuel pump (same as above if flex fuel)
Reprogramming

I'd supercharged my 5.3 so I already had bigger injectors on the 5.3 and had the booster pump installed.  Main thing to be aware of is the crank trigger - the 5.3 in my 2003 had the 24 tooth reluctor wheel which is what this engine came with.  I believe there are some kits out there to translate between the 24 tooth and 50-something tooth wheel that was later used by GM.  Computer needs to be fed from the wheel it is expecting to be installed.

If putting in a 6.0 with the stock hp rating you may be able to get away with just the reprogramming.

I have A 2007 Avalanche LT 5.3 Flex fuel. Which 6.0 can I put in its place? motor locked up on me with only 75,000 miles. :help:

I'm looking to buy a l96 with 55k on it to put in my 07 avalanche all I'll need is harness and computer and tune right?

The L96 is a VVT motor, so you'd need the harness. Your computer could just be updated with HP Tuners for the changes.

---OR---

You could perform a cam swap to eliminate AFM/VVT and just use your existing harness. Either option would still necessitate an update to your current computer.
