5300 Vortec V8...Aluminum Or Iron Block For Av???

I know what the literature says. It also says the Trailblazer for 2003 now has the new 5300 Vortec V8 as an option and for 2003 it is an aluminum block, the first in the Vortec line. It doesn't make sense to me that they would make 2 different 5300 Vortec's. Does anyone here have any inside scoop and know for sure what the Av gets for 2003, the new one or the old one???

I'm working on finding out this answer from Special Agent X

The reason for the different blocks is because the 5.3 in iron block form is too heavy for the suspension in the Trailblazer/ envoy. So they had to lighten the engine thus the aluminum block. The 4.8 5.3 6.0 and the 8.1 is all based on the ls1 corvette, f-body motor and those engines have always been alum blocks..

I thought the 8.1 was based on some GM marine motor (seriously...thought I read that somewhere) and not the ls1 ???
