Why do we have these?

What good is it if the midgate does not split also?

After the first month of owning the truck, I realized i had no use for the 60/40 split. The rear seats were either both UP or both DOWN for me. However, I realized what a pain in the butt it was to raise or lower them separately. You either had to reach way deep inside to get to the other seat or walk all the way around. After doing the headrest mod, I also installed black metal cabinet handles to the rear facing plastic then used mending braces to connect the 2 seats together. This mod may not be for everyone who want the versatility of the 60/40 split but for me, raising them both up or lowering both down is a breeze....

I've only owned my AV for 2 months, and I've already used the fold down on the driver's side only, about 6 times. It is really handy to fold the one seat down, fill with boxes or computer equipment, and have easy access.

When we can't get the dogs boarded and we just have to take the dogs along (grrrrrr! :8: :E: did I mention I don't like them?) we most certainly have one up and one down. The "40" portion is where the car seat for our son is secured, and the "60" portion folded-down is where we strap down the dog crate. Couldn't do this without the split (y)

I'm going to have to go look and double-check - but couldn't it be as simple as cutting the midgate yourself? Aren't there seperate latches on each side?

check here for info on splitting midgate

to answer your question TXAVMAN, they were'nt designed that way for the av. ya gotta remember, this is essentially a suburban with the back wacked off, and in the burb this feature facilitates rear seat fold down for cargo on either "or" both sides. it was installed in the av because, it works though kinda inconveniently for some and some like it, and it cost gm zero dollars in redesigning something just for the av. don't get me wrong, i like this truck more than i ever could or have liked the burb.
