60/40 Split midgate.

So has anyone gone down this road before? I was thinking about this pretty big time. Could you cut the midgate in half, and still use it? a simple latch near the top and the bottom could hold it together when you want it all down. I'd like to hear from the guy that have built speaker midgates and know what is on the inside of these things.
