A/C Vent Leak

Problem: Air leaks through the passenger side from under the dash.

Notes: Definately not the heater vent, as you can feel the hot air and the cold air coming through to the right of the heater vent below the dash on the passenger side.

Causes: There are alot of road kill Skunks here in OK and I'm tired of having to lower the windows to let the stench out. ???

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? thanks!

My best guess...the recirc door in your HVAC unit is stuck halfway and allowing cold outside air to enter. You might try pushing the recirc button a few times to see if that works. Good Luck. :B:

I have the same problem. Cold air coming from under the passenger side dash. It is kind of from more on the right side. No matter what i do with the vent controls, it does not go away. It is 10 degrees here today, and i would love to fix this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Could also be the HVAC case to intake plenum seal is bad or missing. Also check all the door seals. Sometimes the air can sneak around the door and feel like it's coming from under the dash.

It's really hard to pinpoint the problem without sitting in the seat and looking for it.

Good luck.

Well i think i found my problem. I took the dash apart under the passenger side, you have to tilt the glove box down and remove the factory stereo amp to get in there. And right above the hvac door is where the 2 peices of duct work (its not really duct work but i cant think of a better name for it) come together. There is a gap between them with foam between them to seal. But the foam is real coarse and soft. You can put your hand up there when someone else is driving of course and feel the rush of air. You can very easily push and smash the foam and feel more air. It doesnt seem to be broke. Seems to be just designed that way. I was able to suff a towel that folded into a long tube shape all around the edge. It has stopped about 95% of the air. But i cannot get completely around it because there are other things in the way. I am going to call my dealer today and or GM to see if there is a TSB or something on it. If anyone knows anymore about this then please do tell!

Thats the HVAC case to intake plenum seal. If its not tight, lots of cold air will come in. Without seeing it, there may be a piece missing. The foam should be tight up against the flange.

Not "former" yet.....I'm still there. (y)

There is a piece between the HVAC case and the actual sheet metal of the truck. I have seen this piece missing from time to time. Although I bring it to the attention of the proper people, I don't know if they ever get fixed. I suppose some have escaped without it.

I will ask our body shop man the exact name of the piece 'cause I just don't know.
