I was looking through the current issue of Forbes and read a good article about chip mod's.

I had to go to Forbes web site to get the electronic version and went through the pain of getting a user id. So I saved the article and have attached it here. (after having to make it a jpg so it will post :) )

Hope I don't get in trouble >:D

They show a Tahoe 5.3 with a chip going from 285 to 307 hp for $419 - sounds like a good mod :)

Happy reading

If you have trouble reading it, save it and bring it up in MS photoeditor or the likes and expand it. :)

Then, lets figure out how to hire this kid as a group buy >:D

Has anyone ever heard of a chip that increases your hp by 25%?

I have a friend that has an ML430 and he says that their is a chip for his car in a magazine that would do that.

I just want to find out if he is telling the truth or that he's full of poop.

Thanks.

I think what your friend is referring to is a Hypertech Chip. The same company that makes the HPIII and other programers also makes standardized pre-set preformance chips. Summit has them for around $260.
As far as an increase of 25% ??? They claim from 20-35 hp gains.

I want one of those chips! wow!

On the Benz...
25 HORSEPOWER increase... certainly!
25 PERCENT hp increase... highly unlikely without other mods.

 Thanks guys! I kinda figured that it was more like 25 hp than 25 %.

Great feedback!

I just have to ask since there are a few professionals that posted in here,,,,,,,,,,,Yeah chevy says 285hp and we should all know we are probably looking at more like 200hp at the back wheels. If we go by everything we see on the box we would be running 500 hp engines. i have the 5.3 with the HP3 and the K and N replacement filter and i don't think with those items installed i am up to a true 285hp. Now if you are talking about the supercharger guys we know those claims hold up in court, but 20 with the HP3, 10 or so with the K and N and another 10-15 with the air aid tbs, heck i would be running about 320hp, but i think we know better than that..........????????????????

I have heard nothing but good things about buying a mod chip for the av. Better gas milage, as much as 2-5 mpg, and a bit more power.

Where can I buy one?
Links?

http://www.summitracing.com

They have the chips and the programmers. Anyone out their tried both? Not at the same time, I mean I'm curious to performance diferences between the preset chip, and the HPIII?

I am very interested in this chip. Count me in if we have a group buy.

The HPP3 will get you torque and HP gains at the expense of 93 octane gas, as to "2 - 5 MPG", that is stretching it quite a bit. If you could get a 20% increase in MPG that easy every truck manufacturer would put them in stock to meet their EPA numbers. As it is thats one of the reason for the 3.73 gear set - better gas mileage. ;D

I haven't noticed any mileage gain from the HPP3 on the highway. I have noticed a loss of mileage in town since I am still "testing" it! >:D Ya, testing! I'm testing it! That's the ticket! >:D

Most of these mods will NOT increase your gas mileage, but they will make it easier to smile while your at the pump - if it was that easy to increase mileage GM would build it in to appease the EPA and sell more vehicles. ;D

That's exactly right. The manufacturers are always looking fo ways to improve their "CAFE" ratings. Cafe meaning Corporate Average Fuel Economy.

Ahhh the heck with the gas mileage.....let's make more ponies and run these rigs.... >:D :B:

Depending on the supercharger, your options are limited - the Whipple overrides the stock PCM and you cannot use any other override chip - you can get a custom job on the PCM, remove TQM and such and use an HPP3 to tune shift points.

The MagnaCharger has its own methodology - similar, I think. ;D

some one needs to buy the chip so we can get a comparison. I have the HPP3 and really have no idea what it added to the HP. I know i can tell a difference by the seat of the pants that is all.
I am just wondering how much more performance the chip will offer over the HPP3 for the difference in price. You will still have problems when changing tire size and rear end ratios, or maybe when you order the chip you can have them put that information into the chip?
Does anyone know of a business that has a dyno in Louisiana?

Thanks , happy to be here .Well, I went to one site and the chip costed $290 , the other site was $350 ,any ideas on price .Why the big jump ??? Where can I find the right one ???
