A different kind of towing question

Having to live in an apartment after getting used to a house really sucks. When I recenly moved into a townhome (temporarily, thank God), I specifically chose one with a garage and a longer drive to park my Av in so as not to have to worry about maneuvering, door dings, etc. etc.

So this [expletive] in the unit with no driveway and no garage across from me constantly parks in front of her door instead of a parking spot. Of course this is directly behind my drive, and I can't get out without driving all over the grass and having to be extra cautious about not running right over her little POS. This is specifically against the rules to park like this, and I've complained numerous times with no results.

So here's my towing question: If I were to hook my tow strap up to her 2-door Honda Accord and dropped the Av into 4Lo, would I be able to drag her to the other side of the complex? She's obviously in Park, has decent tread on her tires, and the ground would be a combination of brick paver, asphalt, and broom-finished concrete. My Z71 has stock tires with about 1/2 tread left.

Do I even have a chance of moving it? I'm semi-serious about this.

I would think that you cold drag the ricer clean to Magic Mountain although it would probably be squeeling like a pig ;D Not sure what the Sheriff would have to say about it but hey, nothing beats a try like a failure.

Please, for the benifit of everyones enjoyment, have somebody video it for us ;D

Oh yeah, I almost forgot...

what could be the potential damage to her car? I have to weigh the financial risks as well as the legal ones :cautious:

That would be a funny sight! It would probably give her flat spots on her tires though and she'd have to get new ones. She might be a little ticked off.

I agree, get video! Just don't show yourself or your vehicle on the video!

i seriously doubt it would damage the drive train in her car, but you might not be able to control where it decides to go w/o her front tires spinning so be careful about hitting something with her car. i would say 4hi would not pull, but 4lo would do the trick pretty easily. dont forget to avoid sharp turns on pavement in 4lo, and oh yea, pics or video are a must.

I actually did this to a rice burner with a truck I had in high school. I dragged it about 50 yards across an asphalt parking lot. The rice burner's tires didn't like it very much, but they seemed to survive. I have no idea if it caused any permanent damage though.

Incidentally, the truck was a 77 Ford (hey, you don't complain when it's free wheels in high school) with 2wd and a 400 under the hood. Had no problem pulling.

I don't think you would have any problem doing it with an AV.

A set of tires probably and that might be more than the rest of the vehicle is worth ;D

When weighing the risk vs. reward you have to ask yourself if it would be worth it. Having it towed because it's illegally parked at her expense is probably the answer, since Johnny Law might consider it vehicle theft, but hey, where's the fun in not doing it.

If and more importantly when you do this you MUST take pics or have a streaming video for us. Would certinly be funnier than a 5k post word thread eh?

Since its a 2 wheel drive vehicle (front I think) you could buy the moveabout jacks (little lifts with 4 wheels each that the tow trucks use for $75-100 and put her car on those and tow her car where ever without leaving bald spots. Then you could hit the button and let the car off the rolling jacks and your off.

Not that I've ever thought about doing this or ever done it before >:D

The legal ramifications are what I would be more worried about than any damage to her vehicle. Although, if there is any problems with her vehicles drivetrain prior to, you could then be held accountable for the repair. (Whether or not dragging it actually caused it)

I would complain every day to the manager about it, and if they don't or won't do anything, complain to the management company about it. I do believe that an illegally parked vehicle in that situation can be towed at owners expense because they were not in a designated parking space. The manager of the complex would have to do that. Complain that you specifically chose that unit because there were no parking spaces where she is parking the car.

I think most Honda's have recovery hooks on the back. just drag it out about 10 feet to the point where it is in the way for everyone.... use a couple of towstraps so you don't have a slight chance of exceeding the rating of one,...
However,... since you have already complained several times about it they will know who did it,... and, of course have someone video tape the action as to document that the vehicle wasn't damaged by doing that.
You could take and block it up just high enough so the wheels don't touch and let her figure it out,.....

I could come over, we could both hook up to an end. Start pulling and see who gets the bigger piece. Kinda like a wishbone , but more fun >:D

Do it! I like the recommendation of moving it just 10 ft if possible so it is in the way of everyone. One thing you may want to consider is not using the straps with the metal hooks, they break pretty easily...

You of course do not want to start a "war" with someone since your AV could become their revenge target. You mentioned driving on grass. I'm assuming that the management there doesn't want people to drive on, or park on the grass. I would park somewhere on the grass in a rather blatent and obvious spot and wait for the inevitable complaint from management. My reply would then be: "I'll park where I'm supposed to park, when other people aren't preventing me from parking in my spot, by parking where they aren't supposed to park." Make your problem their problem, and then they'll be motivated to fix it. (y)

I AGREE WITH 7OF7..LIFT IT UP ENOUGH WITH BLOCKS SO THE WHEELS DON'T TOUCH..ONCE AGAIN WE WOULD NEED VIDEO OF HER TRYING TO DRIVE IT.. HE HE

I like 7of7's approach!

It's also interesting to see what happens when a small piece of gravel finds it's way under a valve stem cap - especially if it's on a wheel next to the curb. ;)

This was almost the first thing I towed with the AV, my neighbor's stupid mini van. :8: He had it parked in front of my house leaking oil all over the street and just in my way. One day just after washing the AV I had to park in front of his house so I could wash my other car (without spraying water on the now clean AV) his sprinklers came on spraying the truck. I decided that was enough. Got out the tow strap and pressed 4-lo. Even with 2 flat tires on his mini van the AV would have plenty of power to move another vehicle...

Yes, those are parking tickets and tow notices on the windshield that were faded from sitting there so long.

Guess what does NOT sit in front of my house now! >:D

from my experience, you can break the drivetrain pulling the car like that.... (I was not the tower or the towee)

personally.... get it towed, cheaper (free for you) then paying 1500 for a new transaxle in her car

I just new you all would have some great advice, tips, and alternatives for me to consider (y)

There are some other pertinent issues that I must consider, and will share with you all also.

She's a blonde bombshell. Probably should have mentioned that. However she is there at wierd hours, and spend most of her time on the front porch chain-smoking and gossiping on the cordless phone. Also, there is another Honda Accord of different color (kind of a twin) that visits often and parks in the same manner. This owner is also attractive, but semi-trashy, so they go together quite nicely. They have, on occasion, awakened my entire family at 3 in the morning drunk, in one of their cars (in the offending parking spot), chain smoking and singing country music at the top of their lungs.

Then, on occasion, a pimped-out Escalade with some of those blingy-type rims (sorry, not to up on my hip-hop lingo) zooms in and wisks her away. She's usually wearing something slinky for such occasions. Enough detail about that, b/c I suspect it is one of the local NBA players or something and don't want to get in a bind by talking about it here.

Finally, on at least 5 occasions a delivery truck for a rental place (furnishings, etc. you know the like) has arrived with two burly guys. They go to the door and bang on it incessantly for 10-15 minutes. No joke. Then they leave a note on the door, stomp off angrily, and zoom away. Odd.

All of these peculiarities lead me to believe that the resident is a dancer, hooker, or both. She seems unstable, and all of this must be considered in the risk/reward calculation.

OK, maybe this isn't such a good idea after all :-X

REFER IT TO THE POLICE AS A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE AND YOU BELIEVE THEY MAY BE SELLING DRUGS OUT OF IT. SHE HIDES IT IN A DIFFERENT PLACE EVERTIME FROM WHAT THE LOCAL KIDS TELL YOU.. SO YOU MAY HAVE TO CUT THE CAR TO SHREDS TO GET TO THE DRUGS OFFICER.. OOPS NO DRUGS.. MY BAD >:D

I think you could sell the video if you made one! That would be priceless.....Plus, as mentioned above, prove you didn't damage the piece of S**t car that you have already asked to not be in your space!

if she leave the windows down, grab a peice of paper, and a bottle of crushed black pepper... use the paper to funnel the pepper into the A/C vents.... next time she hops in and cranks the a/c (or if is cold the heat)

BAMN blasted with pepper.... she will be sneezing for weeks.... >:D

not that I condone doing this or ever done anything of this nature even once yet twice....
