I am looking for the growl of the Flowmaster 50 series >:D without the interior resonance or adding a resonator or losing low end grunt, what are my options if any ???

TIA

TNAV03, I just installed a 40 series w/ the stock tailpipe and no resonator on my 03 AV. Very little interior noise except during acceleration, but not obnoxious(spelling??). The 50 series would probably be slightly quiter thean the 40 series. Go with the Delta Flow series Flowmaster, the delta pattern in the baffles reduces resonance according to the flowmaster reps I spoke with. Hope this helps you.

This will be like your 8th exhaust system Bob! ;) >:D

I know :2:
I'm still searching for the ulitmate sound without much interior resonance, and I am leaning towards the Flowmaster DF50 series 1 in 2 out.
Does anyone have a part number for this muffler?

Thanks bonedog appreciate the input (y)

I got agree with Bonedog... I have the 50 series Delta Flow.... you get very little resonance in the cab.... nothing that will cause you to turn your stereo up to drown out.

I WUV my 40 series.....
varoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

TNAV03:

SPIN-TECH MUFFLERS (www.spintechmufflers.com). Do your research. Check specifications, flow rates, etc. See what muffler(s) is being used on the truck racing circuit. Listen to sound files. Do a search of Spin-Tech muffler entries on this forum.

I have already used a 70, 50, and 40 series on my 5.3L Avalanche. I was a "Flowmaster Man." I still love the "FlowmasterTone." But, after trial and error, I found that Spin-Tech works a lot better on the Avalanche. Great sound, no annoying interior resonance, and better performance. The Sportsman Street model (3 inch in, dual 2 1/4 inches out) works very well in this application. If you want a little quieter system consider the Sportsman Street XL model.

Best Wishes

Has Flowmaster changed their design of their 40 Series Muffler? It seems only a year ago the common oppinion was that they were too loud and had a tremendous amount of interior resonance.

mine was installed last year.....hehehehe...maybe I am deaf.,..but I think it all has to do with what people perceive as loud and annoying....like fingernails on a chalk board sound cool to me........screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech

Thanks Echo, I may just do that (y)

Powersurge I belive that with the addition of the Delta Flow series they(flowmaster) cut down on the interior resonance. I can not speak from past experiences but the few days since I have had the muffler on my truck I have got nuthing but praises from it. Had everyone from young kids to older adults (60+ years) in my truck and not a complaint. I love the 40 serires.

P.S.: Thanks YGMN for your input they really do sound great.

Cat-backs...

Why aren't Av and Suburban cat-backs the same? Same chassis, same drivetrain (right?), I'd think they'd be the same....

Hi everyone,
New member here, and trying to figure out how to get around the site! I've picked up alot of hints just reviewing the posts, so I must first say to all of you THANKS!! I wanted to find out more about the Flowmasters. I've had my Avalanche since Nov. '02 and the third day I owned it I put on a 70 series 3" in, and dual 2.5" out. Kept all the factory piping including the "y" to the tailpipe. I love the interior sound (almost none) but definitely not enough outside sound, nor the lack of torque. I've spent more time on the phone with Flowmaster and other exhaust guys than I care to admit trying to figure out the best option (I believe Corsa is, but $$$). My question is to the guys that have put on the DF40 or DF50, did you leave in the "y"? I hate to put in a cat-back and get rid of all the stock pipe. I was planning on putting a DF40 or DF50 3" in 3" out and taking the "y" section out. That should take care of the torque, and should give me more sound out. I know Flowmaster says resonator, but I don't like having ss pipes, ss muffler and an aluminum resonator. So you guys with the DF40's and DF50's, "y" pipe or not, and what tail pipe configuration? Also, what about interior sound? Some is good, loud is bad.
TVNA --- What did you decide on? Do you like it???
p.s. --- Never should have told the wife the price of the Corsa!!!!
p.s.s. --- I'll try to fill in my membership history when I get the chance.

I have stock pipes and a FM40 series.......kept all pipes like you did with 70 series......sound outside is awesome...sound inside is awesome to me.....

Did I get great performance no.....I did get improved performance but not enough to scare anyone at a redlight.....

Remember the AVY uses Torque management system to prevent hurting the drive train and this is probably why the off the line performance STINKS....IMO....

Read some more and welcome...

I went with the FM Delta Flow 50 series 3" in 2.50" duals out. There was a silverado there at the same time getting his FM 40 series removed because of the interior resonance/drone that he did not like and that was enough for me to go with the 50 series. I love the rumble at idle, and when I punch it, it now has a nice growl to it with minimal interior resonance/drone.

Hope this helps, and welcome aboard ;)

I did the DF40 3' in/out I removed the stock Y and just welded up a pipe between the muffler and stock tailpipe. I LOVE IT!!!! also here is some real world info since the muffler install with NOTHING ELSE DONE just muffler went from 400 miles between fillups to 435! Now that is a great improvement in my book. Sound is unbeleavable not much inside unless your into the pedal and a noticable milage improvement... best 160 bucks I ever spent.
