Background: I have the stock HU with CD player. 2002 Av Z66.

I received my AAI-GM9 Aux audio input today in the mail an decided now was as good a time as any to get the install done. I pulled the dash trim and radio per instructions found on this site - piece of cake. When I looked at the back of my radio I didn't find what I expected. My CD player is not run via any aux but is built in so I do not have anything plugging into my 9 pin Aux jack. Do I have to have something to plug into this jack in order to get the GM9 to work? Is there a workaround? If not what type of device would plug into this jack?

I can easily take pictures.

You may already have a plug in the 9 pin port (Onstar if memory serves). If the port is occupied, simply splice the wires on the Aux plug into their corresponding positions on the existing plug. If there is something else going on, curse my name, call me stupid, and report back.

I have OnStar and put a GM9-AUX in a while ago. You just pop the 9 pin out of the back of the radio, plug it into the socket on the GM9-AUX cable then plug the GM9 cable into the back of the radio.

I put some industrial Velcro on the GM9 and the air duct behind the radio and mounted the box there. The Velcro was just about as wide as the GM9 box. That way I figured I would not get any rattles and it would still be easy to remove if necessary.

If you have a 2002, make sure that you either disable the security setting on the radio or know the code, else your radio will be locked out when you reapply power to the vehicle.

The porblem I have it that the AAI-GM9 cable differs from the GM9-Aux cable. The former requires a pre-existing aux device be plugged into the HU Aux connector. The later does not. It fools the HU into thinking the new device (plugged into RCA jacks) is actually a GM compatible aux unit. This is what I need but can't figure out if I can convert the AAI-GM9 to accomplish the task.

Found a local stereo dealer that had the GM9-Aux in stock. Installed it and I am up and running.

NMAV,

I went to Radio Shack and bought bulkhead RCA jacks and mounted them in the 4 bay pod to the right of the heater controls. I took the blank covers and drilled 2 holes, soldered pigtails on the rca bulkheads, and female plugs on the other side of the pigtail, just plug in and good to go !

nice and clean, looks stock
