I been reading threads about poor brakes/soft pedal/excessive pedal travel. I see the same suggestion master cylinder, bleeding brakes etc,,,Has anyone looked into the ABS motor causing the problem? Its the only component I haven't replaced yet. It has brake fluid traveling trough it so it might be a problem. I don't have any codes or lights referring to it.

What year?

2002-2006 Gm design is soft pedal & excessive pedal travel but they will stop you...

No one ever goes out and tests they just complain about soft pedal..

but I say go test them from 60mph to 0 and measure distance... for a truck made back then it is pretty good.

its a 2003,,, pedal is less then a 1/2 from the floor. With the floor mat it touch's?.

What method are you using to bleed the system.

Im power bleeding(pressurized system that attach's to the cap of the master cylinder)  , I can run a quart thought each one after the last bubble. Then I bleed the ABS system via my scanner....

I bought the truck new and know the pedal didn't go this low ...

Ok what parts have you replaced so far.

Master cylinder, calipers,  caliper brackets, rubber hoses , pads ,Pretty much everything but ABS unit. Seen a article and video saying that was the problem,

When you changed the master cylinder did you bleed it separately, they can't be pressure bleed.

Well it looks like you did things right from what I can tell, the only other thing is the proportioning valve.

When I did my brakes a few years back, I push about 3 32oz bottles of Dot3 brake fluid though it in order to get clear fluid to come out the bleeder.  You did use Dot 3 didn't you.

My brake pedal is still soft, but it only goes down 1/2 inch before I get the resistance then it only goes down half way before I get a solid resistance.

guess Ill put a proportioning valve when I replace the steel lines next month

Make sure you follow the instructions on how to bleed the combination valve.
Fortunately I did not have one.
