Ac causing stall out at idle and low rpms

So I recently started having some issues with my truck when the ac is on at idle. I saw that the battery meter was running a bit low and had AAA come out to test the battery but apparently its still good.

So next step I upgraded my alternator from 105 amps to a 250 amp. I thought the alternator I had was getting old (6 years) so I figured I might as well get a new one and upgrade a bit. Upgraded the cables and everything, got everything hooked up, but then I go to start it and it starts sputtering.

I noticed the AC was on so I switched it off then suddenly it went to idle perfectly. Switched ac back just to try it out and watched the battery meter go from 14 to 11. Guessing a compressor issue but wanted to check here before I wasted more money on upgrades I don't need.

WHat year avy?

When you engage the a/c, does the engine idle drop significantly?

If not, it is possible the a/c compressor clutch may be going bad and is drawing too many amps when engaged.

If the idle drops quite a bit and the alternator can't charge well because of the lower engine idle speed, then the compressor itself may be going out and dragging the engine idle down with it.

Does the system voltage rise if you manually raise the engine RPMs above a normal idle speed?

My guess would also be that the a/c compressor may be on it's last legs.

If the a/c compressor is the original, then a 16 year run would have been a good one.

Maybe it's time.

So all this AC Issues happens when you install new alternator not before?

Weird

Well the battery died a few days before and come to find out it may have been the compressor causing the issue not the alternator. After giving it a few runs it did finally pick up but my guess is that the compressor is probably the issue here. I know there was a "repair" done at some point on the AC but I'm not sure what that repair was so it very could just be time to get a new compressor.

While I'm here any recommendations on new compressors!? haha
