Add subs without losing functionality of mid-gate???

I've done some searches and found that some guy on here have some very nice sub boxes but its hard to tell if they can still lay the mid-gate down. I use the mid-gate enough that I don't want to lose the functionality for the extra bass.

I've looked at a few premade boxes online that go under the rear seats that would have to be removed before using the mid-gate. That would be ok I guess, I usually know I'm going to use it and could plan ahead and take the sub/subs out.

Any advice from guys with sub boxes on what works best if you the box of your truck from time to time?

There is one design floating around somewhere on here, I can't seem to find it right now, where the sub box is built into the bottom of your rear seat. The plastic cover is taken off to access, and the mid gate can function like normal.

The down side, it can hold only 1 shallow 12".

But it's better than nothing :)

Check the link below, the down firing boxes for 2 10" subs appears to be one of the better ones to suit your needs. The midgate still folds down but it will stay up a little higher because the rear seat lays on the box, and not on the floor. I believe it is very minimal (1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches)
I also use my midgate quite often and have worked in the car audio industry for many years. This would be my personal choice for a box.

Thanks for the replies.

I sent an email asking the comany in the link which of their sub boxes would work with the mid-gate.
I'm almost tempted to go with the single sub that goes on the driver's side so I can mount the amp on the passenger side just to make it easy. I don't need a lot of bass, I'm just disappointed in the bass from the factory sub I have now.

Well this is the only one I found, should have it by next weekend. It only holds 2 10 inchers

JL audio makes one.  It looks pretty nice, and you can still use the midgate. However you lose the glass storage, and it's expensive.  Don't know if posting links is ok, so just go to there web site, and look at the stealth box's

The only one I saw at jl replaces the midgate, go ahead and post a link

I have a memphis shallow mount sub that is behind the rear seat firing backward.  The window still sits in the latches with no trouble but I have to remove the box if I want to drop down the mid-gate.  I've had the truck about 6 months and have dropped the midgate 3 times.  The box is lightweight so easy to move.  If I had it to do all over again I would've taken my time and built a downfiring sub under the rear driver's side seat.  The shop I went to was nothing more than a pack of Mo's and didn't do a very good job.

According to the description it does replace the midgate, but it will still fold down.  So you can use the bed like you normally do.  My guess is it sticks into the bed farther then the factory midgate, so there would be a hump which might not be what you want.  It does fold down though.

I gave up on the idea of finding a box that would work with the mid-gate so I bought a box that would fit were the rear window would go thinking that I usually know when I'll need to use the mid-gate and have to plan to take the box covers off so no big deal I'll just take the sub box out at the same time.

I recently purchased a box that (is supposed to) fit in the rear window spot from Hifi Sound Connection. After I ordered it I went back to this website and then found many threads that that box sucks. Those posts were a few years old so I hoped that maybe they had fixed the box or had a bad batch.

NOPE!!!! Their box is a P.O.S. that has the same problems today that people had a few years ago. I did receive customer service that was a little better than I was reading about from a few years ago but still in the end that box is crap and I would recommend all forum members staying away from it.

This might be the thread you're looking for...

I just ordered it, how do you like it?

Haven't put it in yet, but I does fit well. I was a little concerned about the seams so I added a few wood screws to made it a bit firmer.

I have also been looking for one of these... i would even be ok with one 10" on one side and the amp on the other... as long as i dont have to pull it everytime i need to pull the midgate... and it doesnt effect midgate operation...

Carbon Denali,
I'm in the process of building and almost completed sub enclosure, it was designed for this pioneer sub -http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Subwoofers/Shallow+Mount/TS-SW2501S2%7CS4

The box is .67 cu.ft (pioneer recommends max at .70 cu.ft.) I added a little poly fill to as they recommended. This sits under the rear seat and to get it there remove the two 10 mm bolts  and cables on the front of the seat, slide and it in and put bolts back and slide cable back, real fast. I'm placing the amp under the passenger rear seat. The mid gate folds 97% percent down. I have not tried the sub yet as the glue is drying and I have to cover the box in carpet.

I have drawn the plans and measurements on cad and in PDF format if interested email me and I can send the plans to you as I cannot email or add things yet? This sub enclosure resembles arizona-dave posting. I modify it so you do not have to remove the entire seat frame and also made all straight cuts no angle cuts

I agree. I have a box with 2 10” subs under my back seat and the mid gate still folds down but it does rest a little higher than usual. The amp rests just next to the box. No need for more than a 400w amp for the 2 10” subs. Sounds great. I’ll post a pic if it’ll help.

Please post pics! It might not help the OP but will likely help others in the future. I'm curious myself, even though I won't likely spend on a sound system at this point in time.

I’m new to this so give me a bit and I’ll figure out how to add the pics.
