i am in the planning stages of adding a 4 channel amp for the door speakers and a sub amp for 1 10" in my 02 av. i would like to know how to wire the amps so they will work with the delay on the ignition off audio feature? if i just wire the amps to the ignition, on switched mode the amps will shut off with the iginition and the receiver will continue to play with no amp output. where and how do i tie them in? i know i must tie in the door speakers at the b-pillars and the kick panels (what color wires?). i am going to convert from speaker level to preamp with a converter before the amps. can someone also list the wiring colors/schematic for the tie-ins? i haven't pulled the first panel yet so, i have no concept as to what has to be done? any watchouts, no-no's, etc.? i am competent at installing and wiring hi-end systems but this delay thing is new to me. help ???

okay, i figured out how to pick up the amp remotes power source from the archives, but i still can't find the wiring diagram. seems like the ideal place to tap in would be at jams/kick-panels, still need help on that?

I'm surprised nobody else has answered this one yet! I think the best place to tap into the wires for the 02 is right after the amplifier either behind the glove box or under the center console. (Not sure exactly where its located.) The coloring scheme is definitely in the old posts. Try doing a search on "Line Level Output" or "speaker wiring shematic". You should be able to get all the info you need. Good Luck! (y)

Because its so easy to run wires through the truck, my amps remote source is the ignition wire for the radio. I just ran an 18 gau wire all the way back, no big deal, really easy.

I have an idea....if you install an after-market head unit into the stock dash location and use an after-market harness to connect the unit to the existing wires (that previously went to the stock head unit), shouldn't your after-market head unit have the ignition delay? That's the way it works on my 00 s10.
So, my point being, if you wire up the amp remotes to the remote lead of your after-market head unit, your amps will have the ignition delay.
But seeing as I've typed this all out, you might not be using an after-market head unit. In that case, I've wasted your time and I have no idea how to solve it. :-[
Hope this helps some what.

when i say i still need to tap in, i am referring to where to tap into the factory speaker harness. i'm really trying not to pull the door panels i if can get around it. i found out how to keep the amp energized on the delay from the archives. so heres another question......so if i tap into all four speakers for amp and crossover purposes, will the door chimes or anything else be affected since it/they are not dependent on the delay to operate..huh?

okay, please someone post here what i must do. my fear is mostly that once i splice into the existing speaker wiring, i'll lose some other accessory/accessories. my goal is to add 1 sub/amp, and 1-4 channel amp to the 4 factory door speakers. i understand the power wiring, but what about the speaker termination - where, what to watchout for, etc.

No offense, I think the question that begs to be asked is...why don't you replace those factory speakers? They are not very good and it is just so easy to replace them. It only takes a few minutes on each door. Why would you want to amp them up? Are you replacing the HU?

Welcome to the club....

look for the thread in this section title stock amp bypass...it will help you out for 2002.....not sure if it is the same for 2003....but I am sure it was answered in that thread....which is chock full of info....

Good luck

ygmn, same wire colors for the most part. Different amp locations and bypass plugs if using them. Different amps as well as the '03s are databus II and the '02s are not ;D

thanks for the replys, flyer 7717, i do plan on swapping out the door units later for roc-fos component set-ups but they are not high on the priority list as the billet grille, paint cladding, 2/3 lowering, got the 20's, tires on order, new hu later also. the one question that still remains is will the door chime still work once i throw amps between the hu and the speakers. i really need a sub now but i figured i may as well wire in everything once instead of ripping it apart again later. the chime question or anything else that may be affected is my only remaining concern. thanks guys, this is a great forum, and i belong to a lot of them (all gm)

i've read this post over and over and still can't get an answer as to the effects of the warning chime after i upgrade. please don't tell me to change the h/u again, that's not the question i asked. i waded through the search posts over and over and still can't get a straight forward answer. can anyone help?
