OK here is my delima. I am dealing with 03/04 Av mostly loaded but W/O the steering controls. Assuming I have a totaled donor truck to work with, if I wanted to put factory controls in this truck what does it take.

My guess is the new steering wheel with controls,
and using the TECH II to reprogram the BCM so the DIC and radio etc will work. Would that be it or is there additional wire harness that has to be added through the column to the BCM. If so would it be a plug in or a cut and splice type of situation?
Thanks in advance for any help....

I thought about replacing the steering wheel too, but there's a post or 2 here somewhere about that in which JP says it's not as simple as just swapping them out and re-programming. He didn't go into more detail than that though. You might want to drop him an e-mail and see what he knows about it. If anything interesting, please post back here as there are many people wanting to do this mod! Good Luck!

:B:

can you blame him? ($$$) :0:

I'm awaiting a solution, too.

I saw that but I was more interested in wha it takes to do the factory stuff.

that one is about using stoick stuff.....

I have moved this to the interior mod section..as this is a modification

ive expressed interest to several dealers and theyve all indicated to me that its 'not possible' per GM. this obviously doesnt mean that it is indeed impossible, but it lowers my hopes dramatically. one dealer in particular expressed great interest in an aftermarket kit due to the fact that theyve had a very substantial amount of people that want this done, and can find no way to do it.

JP assured me a week or so a go that the kit 'is coming'. but he wasnt more specific than that. ive seen an estimate of '1st quarter 04' being passed about so hopefully it will be relatively soon.

Don't hold your breath - it's been coming for nearly a year now.

OK here is the low down...
I spent extensive time today with a couple guys from sevice. There was not much going on so they started taking apart a truck to see what it would take.

The bottom line is it is not feasable. There would be extensive modification to the dash harness, new wheel,
different SIR coil (very expensive), memory module, lots of labor and possibly even a new BCM.

Justs I thought I would let everyone know.

Never have I ever heard of GM doing somthing that differnt. I mean whats an avalanche?? A SUBURBAN with bigger fenders(with BH)... you gotta ask yourself, At what point on the assembly line to they flip the switch and say "this ones an avalanche" "this ones a suburban"

I think its time you went and drove your WBH againts a suburban, Identicle expt== only a differnt front clip(which is just very simple to switch to suburban style if you want), and the back part of the roof is cut off on yours. It looks like they tryed to hind the thin area where the glass would go in a suburban with the upper cladding.

Here...

Then look at the one in your sig...

Av2500, I am still confused. Where did the Suburban reference come up in the first place. I was asking about steering controls. They are the same on Av, Tahoe, Silverado, Suburban ect.

Maybe its late so I am missing something but too me it looks you are placiing an answer from a different tread.

i wonder if your dealer thinks its feasible on an 02 or not.

because as far as i know, JP Customs released a kit for the 02s that works.

02 is a whole different ball game. The electronics are nothing like a 03/04. I contacted JP about a kit for 03/04. All they said is they are working on it. I asked when, how much, ect.
All they emailed back was we are working on it and it will be on the website when its ready. I don't think I will hold my breath.
