AFM....How long have you ran your Avalanche with it?

Stock AFM running in 4 mode at hwy speed avg 25mpg on long trips yesterday going threw nv. On hwy 80 gt 26mpg.

No issues with lag kicking out of overdrive and 4 mode, here guess I'm just used too it because it's not a stingray 😬

Cylinder 6 lifter died at 422,000 kms... all the other lifters continue to run now with 473,000 kms. Replaced the lifters on that bank. Bank 1 runs super quietly and smoothly. I change oil super regularly and use Lucas oil additive.

Yea, I read it all that's why I started using M5 until I can buy a device to stop it... Just wondered if it was a big problem or just a problem talked about when something happens
What I mean is...people don't talk about non-problems much...it's the trouble they like to discuss
whats m5? i have a 2007 LT. IDK if i have AFM on it or not but if i do i wanna get rid of it!

yes 2007 had AFM

After swapping my engine (just finished!!!) 1 week. running....did not like it. :(
sent computer to lt1swap to disable the AFM. I did not want the possible tap of death as my previous engine had stuck lifter(s) in block.

YEs... but with AFM... the damage is severe and a programmer to turn off is so cheap relative to a new motor...

and what real benefit do you get from AFM... maybe 1 mpg better on highway?
Doubt it helps much in City...

Did they not learn about this back when they called it DOD DIsplacement on Demand.... was garbage then too.

Issue is the lifter is powered by engine oil which is fine when clean but it gets dirty. pressure changes, Lifter gets sticky...
Just something I would take care of first if I had that in my truck.

Just read to yesterday day a member tearing apart his engine since it started to run bad and then give misfires and all sorts of grief.

the dreaded PO307 and stabilitrak issues on my 2008 | Chevy Avalanche Fan Club of North America

Another I just read now:
I have white exhaust smoke | Chevy Avalanche Fan Club of North America

I dunno... AFM scares me a lot since it is a design thing.... and nothing you can do but delete it.
There was a few that did the math and testing on the AFM and said it would take over 300k to benefit with fuel savings. There’s a reason GM doesn’t do it now on the new vehicles. If it has AFM / DOD, delete it

After reading the posts about this, I checked mine and it is cycling between the two though I couldn't feel it do so.. I do worry about the lifters sticking so I may do the research about deactivating it. I'm all for engine preservation.

Say a prayer, I have to drive my just bought AV 400+ miles back home after trailing it up in order to get the tires replaced. The previous tires felt unsafe. I'm going to drive overnight. Once I get it home, I'll look into getting that delete device. I did notice that there were a couple of different types recommended on here and wanted to know if that was due to different year of vehicle or due to age of post. Ya'll are talking to an HR/Payroll manager so I'm just trying to wrap my minds eye around it. TIA!

The Sport Predator 2 is also programed with different types of setups, you can put in a performance tune, a basic tune, an economy tune, a tune for towing and you can also purchase other type setups from Diablo, all of the ones I just mentioned are pre programed with just a couple of buttons to push, it will explain how to do it after you plug it in and turn on the key. I use the economy tune and I reset my shift rpm for the transmission. I have a 2010 LTZ and I love it!

Thanks Capt! Thinking back and seeing the pic previously posted, it got me thinking about a chip that was zip tied to my air manifold on my 2003 which the guy at the dealership said was a Corvette chip. I have a hard time believing that's what it was, I mean I knew more about the trucks specs than he did. One thing I always check is if the spare is the same size as the stock tires. I remember when we got a shipment of them in from the plant and they all had 15" spares, 17" tires..another shipment had no spares..we didn't even put them up front until GM shipped the correct spares then had them PDI'd..crazy

Even if you put on different sizes tires you can calibrate the computer to make the speedometer work accurately with the different size tires, that's just another feature of the Diablo Predator 2, I just programmed it yesterday with the 91 octane performance tune yesterday and I use the 88 octane that is 15% methanol and it will light up the tires on dry ground and I'm running the Goodyear Dual Track tires that are 275/65/18, the tire shop didn't even want to put the tires on the truck because the sticker said it was suppose to have 20" wheels on it, lol

So is that the only one I need to buy, I saw another post where they talked about two separate ones, just want to be sure..once I get the needed parts, I'll have my son help with that. Between this, the fuel line and the air bags, he'll be stuck under that truck all day..😆 Santa will have to be extra good to him!!

I've not tried the other one so I really can't speak for the performance of it, but I am familiar with the Predator and I have nothing bad to say about it, I've been using it for 3 years now and I'm very very satisfied with what it has done for my Avy, more power, better shifting, it also reads codes and you can also clear the codes. It's really not hard to learn how to do anything on it , they have an instruction book, online service and a toll-free number you can call if you can't figure it out, they'll answer any questions you have and even help you to program your Avy to do whatever you want. That's what sold me on purchasing that particular one. And they have regular updates that you can install for free, you just plug it into a laptop and it will show you how to install the updates.

I'm curious how many people don't worry about the AFM system and just put it in "D" and go?? and has it ever gave you trouble?
Mine seems to work fine with no vibrations or weird shifting,
I disabled mine with an OBD II plug-in.

After purchasing my 2009 with 120k, I researched AFM and failures and purchased a tuner. I disabled AFM and loaded 87 tune.
Mileage is better than f150 I replaced, I don’t look for exceptional mileage in a truck.
I’m hoping to avoid oil consumption and repairs keeping AFM disabled.
