Air Bag Warning Light on Mirror

I noticed today that the air bag warning light on the mirror, stating that the 'Passenger Air Bag is Off' warning stayed on. I had no passenger. I never really noticed it before, but when it is dark the lighted message is distracting.

Is the light supposed to stay on constantly when there is no passenger?

Yes, the light stays on. It starts out bright then dims, but it stays on.

AIR BAG comes on when the passenger door is opened.

Does is disable if the warning light is on the dash?>
