Looking to buy the billet grill and bowtie, found the number to order on the group web site. But would like to see any pictures if you have this grill and bow tie. This is the bolt on type I believe. Hard to install?
Look here: MOD FAQs

In the modifications sections, look at:
  • Billet - Grille
  • Grille - Carriage Works
  • and several "Griile Badge" topics.

Very Nice! Now that I see it on your truck, I think I might like to do this! :)

Looks awesome. Make sure and post a picture after you get the new grill installed.

I don't understand the black lights under the frame. ???

Can you describe what you would see when they're turned on?

I will post a pic when I get the grill in.
I tested this with a Black light that I had, but the paint that they use on the Highways and stuff really reflects cool with the black lights. And, the light isn't as bright as the Neon stuff I have seen. I just think it would be neat to park in a parking stall and have the Lines glowing, or, going down the interstate.

Just something I would like to try. Don't know if it would work worth a dang or not. But I think it would. ;D

Oh, I really, really, really want to see that. Please post pics. I would also love to see a closeup of the black grille before it goes on. Please? ;D

I got my Carriage Works 41263 Billet Grill in today.

Pictures of the grill before installation and after installation and parts and instructions can be found here ( http://www2.mpks.net/users/kegger/Grill/ )

It was super simple to install, but, I think I may pull it off and paint the old grill black also.

I bought this from our Group Buy through Custom Auto Parts.

Looks great! Thanks for the pics, very well done. They give a great idea of what to expect. I think it looks sharp.

I can see why you would want to paint it. In the closeups, I see that the original grille shows through quite clearly. Is it as noticeable in person? Apparently it is, if you want to paint the stock grille.

How about the polished and brushed grilles? In the pictures I've seen, the stock grille is not really visible. Is that because the pictures were not taken as close or with as much resolution? Or does the black just make it "more transparent"? (The same idea where a silver aluminum window screen is harder to see though compared to a black fiberglass screen?)

Is the stock grille as noticable behind the polished grilles? Has anybody seen both in person who can comment?

I have the carriage works polished grill, and am going to meet kegger this weekend for the first ever Kansas Chapter meet. I will compare grills with him, and post some pics.
From what I see of his pics, his "fins" almost appear to be slightly thinner than my polished ones, which would allow more of the original mesh to see through. I would be surprised if this is the case, though, as they are from the same manufacturer. We will see soon!! ;D

Kegger, the new black bar looks great. You said it was $80. How long did it take and how good does the paint match?

Jamie

SS,

I think the grey grill is very noticable within about 40 feet or so. I will see how it is tommorow, and see how it looks in the full daylight, And comments of others.

I know what my wife thinks. She said "So what did you change" Geeze. Women :6:

The bar matches VERY WELL. except for a couple of imperfections. It looks factory.

I took it in at 9 AM and picked it up at 6 PM (and Installed it)

Looks great Kegger! ;D

Now another mod to consider for the monthly budget...

I had messed around with covering sections of mine in the black vinyl, but was never satisfied with it.

I met with kegger today for our first ever Kansas Chapter meet and took some pictures to compare our black and chrome billet grills. The grills are manufactured exactly the same except for the finish. If anyone would like high resolution shots of these, send me a message and I can e-mail them to you...

Guys;
excuse my ignorance but I have nooooo clue what this vinyl this is that some have tried to use in place of paint on the chrome bar on the grill. Could any of you shed some light on this subject ?
thanks!
???

Ricolanche,

The vinyl film is a 3M product called Scotchcal High Performance Film. It is a self adhering product used in sign making. It is available in almost any color. I ordered some gloss black for my grill bar today and will pick it up tomarrow. I haven't used any yet but I understand it can be difficult to install. I will have more info tomarrow after I try. Also check out this topic for more info on the film.

Custom cladding...not paint

I tried VERY hard to do this to my Av. I ordered a roll of that Scotchcal from www.beacongraphics.com. I wanted to do the lower cladding "raised" sections. I wasted a lot and gave up. I then remove the front grill assembly in an attempt to cover the chrome bar. Also VERY difficult. Tried twice, then reinstalled the grill assembly. I have tossed around the idea of having the whole thing painted, but I'm a little concerned how well it will hold up.

I think the black bar looks really good. But since it does take such a beating driving down the road...bugs, rocks , etc...I'm thinking plain ol' Krylon, then keep a can in the saddle bag for touchups when needed.

Hi, I'm one of those black vinyl guys. But a big disclaimer. As I said when I posted pictures, I did not do this. I took it to a pin-striping / decal shop here in town. They do a lot of custom graphics etc. We poped the whole front section off, removed stock bowtie, attached the billet grille, installed the vinyl, trimmed, put billet bowtie on, and attached the unit again.
The vinyl is tricky becasue the cross bar slopes in 2 angles at once, but to these guys it was nothing. Big hair dryer and a sharp knife and away they went.

I just washed the truck Sunday. You have to keep in mind that we have some of the worst winter roads going. City uses something they call sand (more like small rocks) not salt, so any vechile takes a beating. Patched my windshield 4 times, but the last rock chip cracked from side to side.
When I washed the truck there were about 3 pin holes in the vinyl. In the spring I'll either just use a fine, fine brush and a spec of paint, or more likely put another vinyl strip over the one I have on now.

My horizontal grill bar is one of those things that bugs the heck out of me.

I have the Green Ave and I do not think painting this bar black is an option. Then again painting it green just doesn't sit well with me either.

What would you all suggest. Do you think it would look good if it matched the cladding, custom painted forest green metallic, or painted a dull aluminum color. Are there any other options out there?

There is nothing else polished to a mirrored finish on the whole truck. I don't know why it is even there to begin with.

Thanks in advance.

That's why I want mine black. I have seen the more recent model Tahoe/Denali trucks that have the grill/bar color-matched to the truck's color. It's the one chrome thing on the Av and I don't at all like it. I woul dguess that if it were color-matched to your green, it would look good. Cladding color may look odd as there aren't any other cladded pieces up that high on the front end.
