Got almost 10" of snow yesterday with freezing rain on top and I had the AV parked next to the garage in my back yard.  Put it in 4L and climbed right out, over a the big pile the plow had made and took the kids sledding without a single slip, first time I had it out in the snow, this thing is a beast I love it.

A leaf blower also works great after you was the truck, blows out a lot of water in the nooks and crannies, wheels, door handles, mirrors, grill, etc.

now if only all the other morons out there knew to clean the snow off there vehicles before driving them .... I'm still waiting for the day when the windshield shatters from a large piece of snow and/or ice from the a-hole that doesn't clean off his vehicle ..... had a nice chunk hit my windshield Sat but it didn't break ....  grrrrr

I had the same thing happen to me. I actually ducked inside my truck when all the ice came off the caravan in front of me. Lucky my roof visor or antennae didn't get broken either. The next day I towed a broke down car off the road in 8 inches of snow.

Note: if the car in front of you has lots of snow/ice on it.. Back off them so you don't get hit...

Also, for only 10 inches of snow 4wd hi would work just fine.  I wouldn't use 4wd low unless I was trying to go over a pile of snow/ice...

I used to drive a small blazer in my backyard to test the 4wd and was able to drive through over 2' snow with 4wd hi and the avalanche has much more power and weight. My s-10 blazer was driving around the back yard in that packed snow as if I was driving on pavement. The snow was high enough I couldn't open the doors without getting snow falling into the truck. Just saying you shouldn't need 4wd low. ;)

Well that is going to also depend on whether the snow is wet snow or powder...

i was taught besides for safety on roads if you are going somewhere where there is a possibility of getting stuck you should drive in 2wd because 2wd gets you stuck 4wd gets you out... if you get stuck in 4wd you're screwed

I was climbing out over a large mound of snow/ice that the plow had made, as soon as I was out I put it in auto 4WD.  I should have gotten a picture of the front before I went through it.  Slightly to the right and in front of where the truck is parked the alley way comes to a T and the majority of the snow from the alley way in front of the truck ended up in my yard and in front of my garage.

Well, the weather settled down here in central Alberta, Canada but here is a couple of pics from late 2013.  It was snowing pretty much every day and the couple of feet you see translates into about 6 to 8 feet but compressed.  It was so heavy that when we threw the cat in (for a joke) it didn't even sink.  John had a very hard time shovelling it off because it was so heavy and dense.

Bent Mountain, VA...about 20 miles south of Roanoke...the mall is in Roanoke in the valley...I'm at the top of the mountain.

Just for fun I google mapped for directions and it sure is a long way from here - 3,748 km or 2328.9 miles!

1st 12" round...

2nd 12" round...

3rd 12" round...

all in under 16 hours...3 feet deep

and the white out that swallowed the mall...
I don't miss that at all, I like when we get it for a day or so but not for months on end. Minnesota is my birth place and the snow storm that they are comparing this year to 1977, I had to go out the upstairs window with my stepdad to shovel out the doors.  (n)  (y)

Wow, that's wild.  You would get a lot in Minnesota (south of Manitoba isn't it)?

The amount of snow we get varies from year to year as it's really kind a dry climate around here, but we ALWAYS have snow in the winter.  I think I'd have a hard time adjusting to no snow and I probably would miss it.

they are saying supposebly that the set stream may have permanantly shifted making these northern states get colder weather and more snow than usual... i know because we have been cold this year  (n)

They also are saying that the sun is cooling for the next ten years, But than again global warming is real......     (y)

 i know i know... i could see the jet stream shift being legit... around here we have hit record low temps this year and had a ton of snow.

I grew up (well, I never really GREW UP), in North West Indiana and until winter 2004/2005 lived less than 2 miles from Lake Michigan's Indiana Dunes State Park.  So I'm no stranger to below-zero temp's, loads of snow, blizzards, drifts, etc.

I live in Pa and it is just as bad here I couldn't get up my Street this morning in 4 wheel drive I live at the bottom of the hill and just wouldn't do it
